anyone here use a break shaft on their player?

I played a guy one night in my 9 ball league and he had a predator BK2 which had the uni-lock quick release joint. He broke with the break shaft and then quickly switched to the 314-2 with the uni-lock joint to play the game. He did it so smooth because of that style joint and the match went pretty quickly. When time came to break he just switched back to the break shaft etc. He beat me in the match by the way and played pretty well even switching shafts. He told me he was waiting on a new cue and that's why he was using his break cue to break and play with.

alternating shafts in stead of 2 separate cues?

I'd go nuts doing that, I'd rather use a house cue.

My joint is a 3/8x10 so takes a bit of time to put the shaft on.

Unless you are really weak and just can't carry the extra butt (or maybe bought a 1 butt case), you can get any number of very cheap cues and use a good break shaft on it instead of swapping back and forth all the time.

Just my Gilbert h/b cue. I forgot the pros name but one if em uses a peer I men j/b to play with. I was gonna use an old school pred bk shaft a playing tip on my pred sneaky because it's got a longish taper and is stiffer but couldn't find one. Good shape so I sold the cue. I was gonna use a OB break shaft taken down a little till I found out they offer the XL shaft.

I do this... but not because I'm weak, but because it's one less cue for me to keep track of when I'm out at a pool hall.

A simple 1x2 case; break and playing shafts.

no spliced shaft nonsense

i just break and play with my playing cue if i'm carrying my 1x2 case, it has a solid maple shaft and a triangle tip (hard tip) so no worries even if i break hard like when playing 10ball
i don't think i could ever switch back and forth like that, even with a uniloc joint it would probably throw my game off just cuz i felt silly switching shafts every break
but since my joint is 3/8x10, i just break and play with the same cue, it'd take forever to unscrew one shaft and screw the other one on

i was gonna use this setup for my new bar rig, players htx break with playing shaft but it really does seem like a pain in ass so i went with the cheapest htx cue, cheap rage jb cue and cheap 2x4 case, total budget setup all arund, lol but should do it's job well at the local pub

I had guy on my team that used a jump break cue as his player he would jump /break/ and play all with one cue but its whatever works best for u I also did know guy that would swap out shafts one too break with and one too play with it would be annoying too me

Players HXT Break cue... outstanding for that. I bought it when it came with the free HXT skinny shaft.

Not bad for $200...and the 4 piece break is great all around.

This.

It's not as much of a pain in the ass as you'd think. The HXTP J/B cues have a nice quick release joint. It doesn't take considerably longer than simply grabbing a different cue, and I can swap shafts and break it down for a jump shot in less than 30 sec.

When I'm using mine I break and immediately take off the shaft. I walk to my case, put the break shaft away, pick up the playing shaft and tighten it up as I'm walking back to/surveying the table. If you weren't paying attention you'd probably never know it was happening.

With that said, I do play in one room where there is no where to put my case for easy access. When I play there, I put the shaft I'm not using under the table... it is a pain in the ass to play in that room.

No way, that would drive me crazy. I would rather just break with my playing shaft if I'm not going to have a dedicated break cue.
