Anyone play in a money league?

I'm not familiar with the details of how this league works, but I played in APA before and didn't enjoy myself... Now I'm considering joining this money league because a lot of good players play in it and I want the opportunity to play them more often. So what's up with money leagues?

Not sure if UPA is a "money league", because I am not familiar with that term, but...

UPA pays back the majority of dues back at the end of the session to the top 2 teams. It's pretty sweet to actually get something back.

MUCH stronger competition than the typical APA league from my experience and very little if any, sandbagging and BS drama (at least in the one I play in).

I'm in a local "Master's League". About 11 teams of four. $40 per team every week. 100% of all fees are paid back to the top 3 teams. It takes a lot of organization, but we have a very dedicated and generous league manager. It's the most fun I've had in all of my pool-playing years.

How many weeks is the season?

We play every team once. So as long as we don't miss a week for holidays or unforeseen circumstances it goes 10 weeks. We just ended last night, start the new season in 6 days!

Play in an ACS sanctioned league. The house gets a small cut to keep up the 16 GC's, and the scorekeeper gets some cash to do all the stats and schedules.. which is not easy with 16 5-man teams..... the rest gets put back to the players.

ACS does not take any cut of the weekly dues. They get a one time yearly membership fee of $10 from each player.. that's it. Fee's in our league is $15 per week, but it entitles you to show up early and play after league.

All league members get free pool 7 days per week once you have 3 weeks in the current session.... as long as there is an open table... good business decision.... get the folks in there to eat and drink....

The VNEA league that I play in on Thursday nights is set up similar to a money league in payout. As far as the money part goes, The weekly fees are $60 a team. The payout is set up as $60 back per team per weekly win and $30 per loss. The other $30 bucks goes back into the league as extra prize money for the top teams; which is normally the top 3 or 4 depending on the number of teams in the league. They do pull a bit out of the prize money to pay for the scorekeepers time and printing expenses for the paperwork. The teams and players that want to go play in Vegas, simply let the league operator know, and get him a check for the entry fees in April and he sends in the paperwork for them to play in Nationals.

What I like about this league is that all of the payout is in cash. However, if you or your team wants to play in Vegas, everything is set up so you can. As far as schedule goes, each session is a round robin so every team plays each other once, and the payout is based on the results for that session. When a session is over they pay the teams off and start a new one session (i.e. teams can drop off or come in). The only thing that is carried over from the previous sessions are the players handicaps which are maintained over the entire year.

i used to play in both in house and travel money leagues.

i encountered more snandbagging, more bs and drama over rules and fouls i have played the same people in apa or napa and they have completely different attitudes. it all boils down to greed imo.

I play in both APA and an in-house leagues. The in-house leagues are BCA sanctioned, so if you want to go to Las Vegas you can on your own dime.

At the end of the season, there is a playoff period and the top 8 teams get paid. The cycle repeats again next season. In comparison, in the local APA, the top finishers get to play in the Tri-cup. If they win the Tri-Cup, then they get a shot at the Gold-Cup. The Gold Cup awards a trip to the APA Nationals. I heard in other APA franchises, the league operators hold bracketed money tournaments (ie. SL4 only). Hasn't caught here yet.

Around here lengths of the season are roughly the same in all league, and they pretty much start/end within 2-3 weeks of each other. I hope this helps.

Cashleague.com it's pretty much a license fee per player. If it's not run right it's a waste of money. That's my issue with it.

I play in my man cave against the ghost. No leagues or tables even close to me. Only a few friends who play.....real bad.

You guys have it made.

Play the ghost for cash, at the end of the night everything you lose you hand to the wife. It makes you play your best. :)
