Anyone Play Snooker?

I played it for the first time ever yesterday. It was a bit on the hard side because all of the balls were the same exact size as a regulation ball, it was still a 10' table or bigger and those little pockets with the rounded corners can blow me. I can't help but feel like the game of snooker came around when 9-ball went to bed with a 14.1 game. Keeping score was a bit of a mathematical challenge (don't drink beer because without a stringer or a chalkboard you are screwed trying to do it in your head).
I have played on a snooker table before, we used to go to WALDO'S and practice with regular balls on it.
I think I like the game, I would have to give it TWO THUMBS UP!!
I Can't wait to play it again.

BTW, anyone have a rules book? I think they were stoned when they were trying to tell me all the rules.

Where did you find a snooker table? I'll go with you next time and show you the rules! Let me know.
 
My friend just opened a brand new pool hall (over 9000 sqft) all new tables and LOTS of room between tables isolated playing area. 11 brand new brunswick tables and one snooker. He used to own Racks in Titusville and then he bought Big Daddy's in Ocala and then opened Chalkies in Merritt Island. His new room is located on US1, just south of 520 in an old strip mall. OLD CARNIVAL MALL. He just opened up last Friday. I will be out of town this weekend, but the following Sunday you got a DATE, unless you are already booked.

I'll get with you on this. Too bad you;re going to be out of town this weekend. I'll be at Golden Cue on Saturday for a lesson. Maybe if I have some time I'll check out that new room. I'll be up in Jacksonville the weekend after that - but I'll definitely make an effort to get over there as soon as I can.

If it is a full size snooker table the playing surface between cushions will be 11 ft 8 1/2 inches x 5 ft 10 inches, although there are of course smaller versions and the one you played on might well have been 10 ft.

Have fun.......a tad more difficult than pool to master:)

Ps....I think it was invented long before 9 ball and 14:1 pool so the barstard son is probably not snooker,lol.

Played every day for about 10 years until I moved to the States in 1997 and because there was no snooker I didn't play anything for about 5 years. I was never a pool player in Ireland. Kinda wish I had switched straight to pool as I was playing so good when I moved. I am still thinking about putting some time into pool, I just havent done it yet

i envy you. i have yet to find a pool room in hawaii that has a snooker table. when i feel like playing snooker, i use the stripe balls in place of the red balls and the solid color balls as the 3,4,5,6,7, point balls. of course, the maximum break is something like 60 points, but it's still fun.
 
im a snooker player (allthough playing more 9 ball now) and yes snooker and billiards (as in traditional billiards) was arround long before pool or 14-1 or even the tables to play it on.

however you need a score board really, if you were playing on a 10ft table and though it was hard then go to a full size, and if you think thats hard, play on a pro table, youd be there all day trying to finish the frame almost.

worth playing tho, even if it is just to get a grasp on how good the pro snooker players are, some people play all their lives just trying to make one century break, some pros have made 4 consecutive centuries in tournament on tables with pockets that arent much bigger than the balls.

i play a lot of snooker now too, but came from playing american pool. give yourself time to get used to it. it is the same but not really the same, you know? different cue, balls, pockets, table height, etc. i had to develop a snooker action that is different from my pool mechanics. i can't say playing snooker has really helped my pool game. my snooker has gotten much better, but my pool game is the same. they're just different games...
 
Snooker cues are different from your basic pool cue. American pool players favor a 13mm tip give or take, and the snooker cue is somewhere from 9mm to 11mm in diameter.The snooker cue also has a uniform or conical taper to the shaft, making them good and stiff. It's a great game on a 6 x 12. You can probably get a good feel for the game by watching some of the great videos in the snooker forum here on AZB, posted by Scaramouche. Thank you Scaramouche.
