Anyone seen a cue like this one?

Hey Everyone, I am repairing this cue and I am trying to date it and find out the cuemaker for the owner. It has a mahogany handle instead of maple, and appears to be a nickel silver collar instead of stainless. The veneers and rings are vinyl or plastic. 5/16-18 pin. Does anyone have any information about this cue? Thanks in advance for any help!

I think it's a Viking. Maybe mid to late seventies?

Somebody with a Viking catalog can check.

The rings on the butt plate that match the veneers is an identical trait to what I believe to be a Gandy I have. My ring work at the joint is also pretty damn close to yours, check it out:

Gandy and National both came to mind for me....but did they ever use Vinyl veneers? I honestly don't know. That's why I started at Viking, because I know for sure they did use them.

There are several makes of that era that look similar, which can frustrate the identification.

It would be really cool if it were a Gandy.

I love the stark white veneer. If any present day maker would use this material I am ready to order a cue from you.

Nice looking cue that you have there.

Read the last line at the bottom. I'm not saying the cue is a Gandy but it sure looks a lot like one.

The veneers look a lot like Wico to me too. That particular cue, the colors and matching color of the ring work looks real familiar to Me, but can't place where I've seen It right now.

Thanks for all your valuable input, I thought it was a Wico blank but needed some verification. I will look further into the makers you all suggested.

I had one almost identical to the one pictured. The only difference I can see is the ringwork on mine had a single white ring between 2 black ones. My cue also had the Wico points, which I'd also like to

clarify. I hear people talk about "Wico Blanks" all the time now. This is a misnomer. There were no "Wico Blanks"! Wico was a company in Chicago that sold parts and supplies to vending companies. They

sold all sorts of parts for pin balls, coin-op pool tables, bowling supplies etc. Bob Meucci, before he started "Meucci Cues", had worked for Huebler and other cue making companies, "National" being one

of them I believe. At some point Bob invented the "vinyl veneers" and sold them to "Wico" who distributed them to Gus Szamboti, Viking, Palmer, and National, just to name a few. Gus built about 4-6

cues using the "Wico" veneers and decided he didn't like them and went back to wood veneers. People heard the legend about Gus using "Wico Veneers" in the beginning and before long it became "Wico

Blanks" as the story was spread around. A good friend of mine has one of Gus' "Wico Cues" he's had since new. It and another "One of a kind" Gus, as well as a Gus "Window Cue" are for sale now, BTW.

Getting back on topic, I'm relatively sure this cue is a National _BUT_ I think there was a connection between the Gandy Cues and National, via cuemakers who had worked together in Chicago.

Well, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it! lol
