am i the only one out there? seems like it. my dad bought it for me about 15 years ago and i've used it as my primary cue ever since. i know they dont make them anymore. but they dont make a lot of cues that are still pretty prevalent on the scene.
anyone still use a Mali cue?

I've used Mali cues for 30 years.They hit good,they're solid,I've never had one warp.I currently use a Wille Hoppe model.Whenever I'm asked what kind of cue I use,and say Mali,I get the look.Mali never did get much respect among players.I used to go to their factory in Sheffield,Mass.They make a nice cue.

I think my second cue was a Mali, I paid the exhorbitant sum of $149, in 1988.
White joint, 3/8"-10 pin, red veneer over black points.
It lasted about a week. The threads in the shaft came apart.
I was new and bought on looks alone. I've always had a thing for red over black.
The taper was short and the balance horrible. Between the two, the cue felt about 55" long.
Hit was ok, for as long as it lasted.

I got the chance to use a Mali Cue owned by my cuemaker here in PI, it's a nice solid hitting cue, i actually him if he's selling cause i'm very interested, the shaft diameter is already thin for me though.
the very first cue i bought was a mali back in the 80's. emerald stained bem forearm with ebony points and a black and white speck wrap. i liked it just fine. only problem was that i was just learning how to play and one day the frustration level hit an all time high and the cue met a horrible end. a short while later i bought a meucci and i still shoot with that cue.
"New" Mali cues are made in China. They moved production over there a few yrs ago. I know a guy who shoots with one of the original US made Mali, and he loves it

I have had a few mali cues over the years. I currently play with a predator which I have been using for the last 7 years. Mali vintage series is a great looking set of cues. I'm kind of a traditionalist... I like the 4 points without a lot of fancy design. Everything they make now has the 5/16 x 14 joint. "same as a joss or schon" For the money in my opinion they are one of the best cues you can buy. I do however not like the fact they are not made in the USA no more.
I have a Mali break cue I'll sell..I got it around 7-8 years ago from the person that bought it new when Mali was popular.. I was told it is actually a special break cue they made called the big bopper or something like that..I have hade a few people offer to buy it over the years..I don't play much any more so might as well let it go to someone that will use it..Them you can have Mali player and break cue... It weighs around 18-19 ounces breaks great.. email me an address and I'll try and get some pictures out..

don't know how i missed this thread.
i have 3 older mali cues.
1. from 76-77.4 points.veneered with windows.i'm told it was made by the palmer company for mali.
2.one from the early 80's.my main player,bought it from bogey.4 pointer as well not as fancy but my fav.
3.my first cue from the late 80's.purple stained.

One of our sons had a Mali. It was his first cue, bought back around 2001, I think. He was awful proud of that cue. It stayed straight as long as he had it. He finally sold it a couple of years ago, but I think a silent tear or two went with it. Being his first cue AND being so reliable made it special.
The first American-style Pool cue I purchased was a red-stained Mali Spectrum from the Mueller's catalog for $75 in 1999. (I believe a model II with a 3/8 flat-faced joint) I had to send it back as it had a loose weight bolt, which they immediately fixed and returned to me. Other than that it had great build quality and a nice wrap. However, not knowing any better, I was too aggressive in cleaning the shaft and whittled it down to 12mm before I stopped using it for a newer cue. I still have it on my wall.
Interesting Mali cue on eBay right now. Rectangles instead of points on the forearm.

Yes sir,I play with one of my Malis once in a while.Was told yo put it away because it was a one of a kind.I own 5 of them.Kniw many guys who use Malis to shoot with and some of them own several but that is because we are all from around the area in Mass.where the stucks were made.Know several people who worked there and the man who ran the place.
