As some of you know I have qualified for the BCA junior nationals in Arizona in July. I'm trying to raise money for the travel expenses. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PM me if you are interested Thank you for your time

I don't want to sound mean or anything and I if I had the money I would certainly support you but what about your parents? Aren't they tickled pink that you qualified so much that they would get you there one way or another? As gas prices the way they are driving would still be the cheapest wouldn't it?

Doesn't winning come with some expence money? You should get a local sponsor where you live of maybe the pool room where you play. You know, for you to travel from your home to Arizona with hotel and all, that's an expensive proposition especially if one or both of your parents come

If you setup a paypal account I would be happy to make a small contribution.

Noble Young Player

While this post may not help this young junior champ much, I will say that he is going about it correctly. Don't anybody think the 21st century is some financial cake-walk especially for our youth and their parents.

Reaching out to the billiard community (which this forum partially represents), should prove to be an excellent opportunity for him to raise the money for expenses. There are also other forums.

May I offer a suggestion as a follow-up post by this young champion.

Please post an itemized cost list and then ask for (X) number of pledges from AZ posters. In other words, if your expenses are $1,000.00 then see if 100 people will put up 10 dollars a piece and you are good to go.

Copy this post and share it with your local roomowner and billiard supply companies (Maybe even a flyer here and there would help also). Keep them aprised of your pledge progress and if this approach fall short I am sure it will impress the other billiard companies enough for them to make up the difference.

If this sounds like a good idea to you, I will gladly make a pledge towards your goal.
By the way, if you are successful with this venture please share this sponsorship plan with the other champions at the nationals. It may help all of you in future years. While you are at it, show the BCA what you have done and maybe they will learn something also.

I am not asking for donations, as I have worked pretty hard these last few months to gather my expenses but to help you out buddy, The marriot has a special deal for players coming in town for the Junior nationals. It is 75 dollars a night, but must be accompanied by an adult or someone 21 yrs of age. So the event is july 5th-9th. At most you are going to spend 450 on hotel fees which includes July 4th ( the day you have to register ). If you buy plane tickets now the costs are pretty cheap. I locked in at 220 or somewhere around there, for a round trip because I purchased early. Then there is going to be food, and other little expenses there so you can add another 150 for the week, So all in all I would guesstimate around 800-900 dollars for the trip if you plan right now. I qualified for the junior national event earlier this month. Though I love cues and dealing with cues and working with cues, I love to play just as much. This will be the last year I can qualify to play in it. I am 18 and turn 19 in dec. So I can't qualify next year. You can PM me for details I would love to help you out, I'm going through the same thing you are, but I'm old enough to work.... ;) Although i have little financial aid from my father, I have all his support and good wishes so I have sold some cues I have not wanted to sell, ( MY JIM BUSS TITLIST!!!!!!!!!! UGHHHHHH) I love that cue so much. But I have never played in one of these events, So I hope I do alright there in nationals. Let's me and you get top 2:D Good luck buddy, send me your address, I'll send you a little bit of what i have.

Sincerely,
Tony (lower caliber national's finalist :p )

I will pledge $15 bucks to both players... My preferred (and only) method of donating would be through Paypal. Let me know when you both have your accounts set-up.

As with any donation, there is a catch... The only things I want in return for my donation is a couple of detailed posts about the tournament experience and a photo or two from the tourney. Simple!

arizona

They do not give the kids any expense money to get out there, My parents are divorced and have been for about 10 years and my mom has done a good job in raising me, she supports me and my pool and tries to do everything she can for my brother and I. I wanted to help her since she has always helped me. Thank you for your donations and your time.

Money sent... be sure to let everyone know that your Paypal is up and running and ready for your trip funding....

Enjoy the trip!

You sound very respectful of others, the game, and your position. I would be happy to make a contribution to paypal if you can post the e-mail address.

good luck in arizona...

where are you located at junior?

if your already at the west coast i would say things have been a fair bit easier for you.... we only have i think 4 qualifiers in the midwest total... and they were all a good distance from me... i tried to make it to one i michigan but my ride backed out(i am without car)

good luck again, let us know how it goes.

Sounds like a good hustler in the making:p Just kidding, just kidding. What the hell, when I get my paypal account up and running I'll send 10 bucks or so.

Thanks, but I would rather make it on my own steam. What Junior champ said is true. They don't give us any expense money, and gosh me and him are about the same in every respect. My parents got divorced about 5 years ago and I live with my father. Like I posted earlier, my father gives me his full support and whatever money he can but raising me and my brother is tough enough without having to shell out another 1,000 or so...just so I can go on this trip. So I decided to get a job. Oh but I will keep you guys updated on tourny results and will post photos from there if I can get access to a computer. Plus I've been on a luck streak this past week or so. I have won about 100 just in tournament money. 10 more weeks like this and i"m there.....:D Well all kidding aside I appreciate the help and support from you fellow azber's, I know I'll have fun down there. Will keep you updated.
Hope they have a AZB room like they did at the DCC...;)

Do you know anyone where the tournament is being played who could give you a place to stay for a few days and maybe help you out with transportation? Is your mom going with you? I would bet there is someone on here that may make an offer. I used to have players staying at my house all the time. I even have had road players knock on the door and ask if they could use my shower. There may even be one of the other players who is local who could help you out. I think it is a lot of expense to ask for a kid and even his parents to have to foot, I can't believe they don't give you a few hundred towards the cost. Is there an entry fee for the qualifier?

yes

There is a 15 fee but thats for the membership and the poolhall can retain a 5 dollar green fee.
