Anything special about old or aged chalk?

Lead used to be in Masters Green... And the tangerine and green of another maker... I forget which one but the study was linked here several times but the links no longer work... Preflag and post flag blue no changes... Masters has confirmed it but the myth is still pushed here... You can still get Masters with no flag from tweeten so just because you are buying pre-flag doesn't mean you are buying old chalk.....

As far as age vs moisture content..... Environment and not age is the key here and the changes are really only surface deep.... Chalk will wick some water out of the air but only to the exposed surface areas.. It will not wick the moisture in like a sponge... Most rooms have A/C these days so it' not gonna happen unless you leave it outside in Manilla or Mobile or you take it in the bathroom when you shower.....

As far as going the other way..... Physical water can driven off by leaving it in the car in the summer heat or by throwing it in the oven... Since chalk is dried during manufacture the only physical water you will drive off is the environmental water mentioned earlier..... Driving off chemical water requires much higher temps beyond your oven and will only lighten the weight of the chalk if clay is one of the binders as most chemicals in use do not have chemical water in the minerals....
