I'm not sure how hight the rankings go for a player on an APA team. Could someone tell me how high they go and about how many players of the top 2 or 3 rankings are on the average team?

My idea is to start county tournaments with APA top ratings players and play w/o a handicap. The APA is already in most areas. I need to find more info before I can try and make this work. Johnnyt
 
I cant really decipher exactly what you are looking for but ...

In 8ball handicaps range from 2-7 with 7 being the highest
In 9 ball handicaps range from 1-9 with 9 being the highest.

In 9ball each team can only play 2 players on any given night that
are a SL 6 or higher. Most teams usually only have 2-3 players in this range. No matter what they can not have the totals of their 5 players exceed 23 points in one night. example 6-6-4-4-3 =23 cant go over 23.

In 8ball each team can still not exceed 23. Its a little harder to say what the average team would have in regards to the higher end of the handicaps on each team. I would say that very few teams have 2 players that are both 7s. Maybe 20% would have a sl6 and a sl7.
4-5s are very prominent and play very often.

I am a few teams and here are our numbers as examples.
8ball -- 7-6-5-5-4-3-2-2
8ball-- 7-6-5-5-5-4-3-2 One of the 5s just moved up.
9ball -- 9-6-5-4-4-3-3-2

Not exactly ideal teams numberswise but we are qualified for regionals. I dont think any of the teams will remain the same after this session.

Also you can visit some of the APA league sites and some have rosters
that you can few. You might find the areas around you there and can get a good idea of the numbers locally for your tourney idea.
 
Basically, what he said....

8 ball 6/7's and 9 ball 7-9's would make a good starting point for a solid, limited handicapped tourney....players at those levels are solid, competetive, and have a good overall skill for the game....

I like your idea, I am a 7 in 8-ball and a 9 in 9-ball and I was wondering how many other players there were out there who had maxed their handicap, so your tourney would be cool to get us together to se if our levels were close or some areas were way stronger than others
 
Our 7 used to get in invite to the open qualifier in NC.they never sent my sorry ass one.

He went,but never faired that well...(early outs)...

Run with the idea me thinks...if you can pull em in it will be good pool.
 
In our APA league here in Charlotte you can play any combination of handicaps up to 23, so you can play 3 sl6 and 1 sl3 and1 sl2 during the session but you may run into trouble playing the same lineup in the City Qualifier tournament.--Leonard

I'm locked in as a seven in both 8 and 9
 
In the APA league I'm in, most teams have one SL6 & 7, or two SL6's

the first 8ball team i was on, we started with this, 6,6,5,5,3,2 we had a new guy who was a sl4 and i was a sl5. Well the new guy lost his first match then won the next 4 weeks, and in his 4th win, he was bumped to a SL6!

Well the first week of the session, one of our SL5's won and got bumped to a SL6. After my 5th match, I was also bumped to a SL6 too.

So now we had 6,6,6,6,5,3,2 lol

But most teams, have a mix of players, mainly atleast 1 SL2 and a SL3 and a mix of 4's and 5's. Then there is no worries if someone gets bumped up.

I'm locked as a SL6 in 8ball unless I loose for the next 4 yrs lol. And I dont play well enough to get bumped to a sl7 either.
 
My team started out like this: 6, 5(me), 5, 4, 3, 3, 2.
Now: 7, 6(me), 5, 4, 4, 3, 2.
All of us keep improving except for the 3 and the 2 so we'll always have them to keep under the 23 rule. We do pretty well. This is my second session in APA and it looks like we're going to make qualifiers again. Hopefully this time we get past qualifiers :p
