APA double hit thread of the day

An ex league operator kept it simple by saying there was no double hit fouls period. He explained that you can't explain them to 2s and 3s and they will quit. When asked about top players abusing the rule to get shape he said it's the same advantage for everyone.
I wonder what he'd think of my shot that with a single tip-to-ball contact can pocket all 15 balls each in a pocket that my opponent calls after the cue ball hits the first ball. I suppose that technique gives the same advantage to everyone, too.

You can explain them to 2s and 3s, but you have to understand the shots yourself. Not all LOs do.

i love this graphic. this what was the point they didn't seem to grasp. i wish they'd take out the whole 45 degree guideline. it confuses the shit out of people to think u can't foul like that.
Well...according to the official rules at DCC, elevating at 45 degrees won't make it a foul, double-hit (or not) be damned...

DCC rules said:
Double Hits, Push Shots, Miscues: Object balls frozen to the cue ball or very close to the cue ball require you to elevate the cue approximately 45 degrees to stroke the shot. This will be considered a legal shot even though a double hit may occur. Even with an elevated cue, you cannot place the cue tip on the cue ball and shove it forward or it will be called a push shot and result in a foul. An unintentional miscue is not a foul. An intentional miscue is a foul.
I learned this little tidbit from Bob Jewett in this thread.

throw rather then masse'

I cannot see the shot because the cuetable software won't work on the work computer.Sounds like it was a foul.

I sometimes will place the CB as close as I can get it to a problem ball, without touching the OB, with BIH.When I do this I shoot away from the ball at nearly 90 degrees. If I can get the CB in the perfect spot I can use the natural throw to pocket the ball without fouling.I notice when I place the ball like that I will get the interest of my opponent and will show them the extreme cut angle I intend to use.I often will jack up also if for no other reason just to keep the CB from jumping the table.

I've gotten so tired of this rule that I pretty much ignore it now. As long as somebody makes an attempt to avoid it, I tend to let it go. It is nearly impossible to explain the double-hit to somebody that doesn't know and already thinks they made a good hit. Mostly, I see those that do know what to look for will call bad hits against themselves. If another team is being anal about the rules, then sure, I'll call it, but mostly I just want to hang out and have fun. I'll mention it to the captain/coach so that they can go over it with their player afterwards.
