APA home team benefits

Hey guys,

I just posted this in the room owners discussion forum, but I'd like to hear some feedback from players as well. I feel like there may have been a thread on this in the past but I couldn't find it searching, so if someone has the link feel free to post it up.

I just started a new 9-ball team out of my local hall, and coincidentally the hall just sold to a new owner. He is enthusiastic about the APA and agreed with my suggestion that we should setup something to encourage teams to want to play there, and stay all night when they have matches.

I suggested some sort of a team drink special, but I really don't know what makes the most sense in terms of profit for everyone.

He is already providing free table time, 1 practice table per team all night on 9 ft' Olhausens, but he would like to do more to have people staying and drinking and coming back on non league nights.

What perks are commonly offered to APA teams?

Keep in mind this is not a booming APA area. We're trying to get more teams motivated.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
james

Perks I've seen:

* Free table time (or they open up the barboxes, no quarters)
* A free "halftime" drink - each team gets a slip of paper to write down one drink for every team member - something they've already been drinking (i.e. can't be getting free water then order a mixed drink for your freebie). Waitress brings your orders around about halfway through the night.

I have yet to see BOTH of those perks at the same time. It's either one or the other.

Maybe another possibility is a 10% discount on table time on non-league nights for the league players (show your card or whatever).

We have a place that will offer free pool everyday from open till 7PM for team captains. They also offer free pool on the weekends for league players from open till 3PM.

The room I go to (plug Chalks Billiards in RI end plug :D ) has an all day and all night special and APA members get a couple of bucks off. I think many rooms have discounts for APA, 10% off select merchendise, less hourly rate, maybe offer a free lesson a week. How about some free T-shirts for the team with the room logo?

I enjoy playing at Champions in Frederick, Maryland. They set up a free ice water, tea and coffee bar for the night for all the players, and they provide 2 free tables for practice on a "challenge" basis while the league play is going on. It may not seem like a lot, but it is great to be able to step over and get a glass on tea, water, or cup of coffee during a stressful match.

APA Benefits

How about 2 nights a week maybe Monday and Thursday he could offer league members a special price on tables to play all night maybe 6.00 per person considering thats not the night you have the league.

The room owner benefits by bringing in new faces (the opposing teams) Some of these people will come back and play.
In my neck of the woods, the players get happy hour drink prices all night (one or 2 bars do the free drink) and we get fed something. If the place doesn't have a kitchen, they'll order pizza's. People eating pizza generally drink more beer.

I think the free practice table is enough.

The place we play out of has half price pool rates for league members. They normally charge $14 for the table so half is $7, doesn't matter how many players. This place also has pretty good food for the price. The bar and table area is about a third of the room size. The thing is that the extra tables are free unless a a paying customer wants it, and then you get first chance of keeping the table if you want to pay for it.

The catch is that they charge $6 per APA league match on top of the $6 APA league fee for $12 total per match. It is a nicer place and the place heavily depends on APA leagues three nights a week. The tables are nice and the cloth is maintained very well. Most folks think it's worth it, of course some still grumble.

Free Drink for team members, one free app for team.

Free pool for league members only on Sundays.

i'm in my third session and second bar with my current team. what we've always got in the past and other bars in the area seem to do the same is just a free round for both teams. i know there is a bar in town that gives 10 dollars of quarters as well as team rounds. thats the only one that i know of though. there is a pool hall that sponsors teams that gives free practice tables but most of the teams that play here are out of bars

most APA teams here in the mpls area get:

1 table for the whole team until midnight or whole night if not busy (matches start at 7pm, get table at 5:30) for $30

5 2for1 drink tickets
