APA League MVP

I wouldnt say i was screwed but i did not get a patch for what was my greatest achievement up to that time.

It occured during my one and only trip to vegas. First ever match at nationals and i skunked another 5. Could be considered a tainted win due to the fact it was sudden death where all balls were worth twice as many points. But nevertheless i think a 38-4 win vs anorher 5 in sudden death was quite an achievement.

Being the captain i was the one to turn the scoresheet in and i inquired about a skunk patch. The lady stated they didnt have skunk patches at nationals because no one had ever skunked another player. She said she had been working nationals 15 years and had never seen a skunk and she atarted showing the sheet to every one up on the stage lol..

I have managed to recieve a few skunk patches over the years since then.

None of those have replaced the feeling i was having at nationals though.
I managed to a skunk a guy in regular league play once. I did a single session of 9 ball before leaving CPA (APA). A totally tainted win on my part...lol. It was my first ever 9 ball match, and for some reason the LO put me down as a 7 or 8 or something other than a 9. I knew the guy I was playing, and he went totally off side when he saw I was less than a 9. They delayed the match as long as they could in an effort to reach the LO, without luck. I totally stood my ground laughing, and demanded I play at the official handicap. I crushed the poor bastard. Something less than double digits. Really didn't matter though. I doubt he would have put together enough with the slightly longer race to avoid the skunk.

Never bothered chasing down my patch. Didn't feel right. ...but man I had fun torturing him though. 😈

I love my skunk patch since pepe le pew is now cancel culture target,

They didn't like me being marked a 3 and getting the skunk but it was like my 3rd apa 9ball match.

And plenty of top level Houston players (600 Fargo and up)
don't have one so It means something to me no matter what.

Not directed at you but i see no need to rain on some one elses parade. A patch is recognition for an achievement ...whether it be a break and run...8 on the break...rackless...skunk or an mvp.
I have played apa for 12 years now and contrary to popular belief i have never played for patches or even a trip to vegas.

I just enjoy playing with friends in a somewhat competitive environment. After filling 2 shoe boxes with patches i have begun to give them away to team mates and have even put them back in the folder to return to the league operator.

With that said i see nothing wrong with a person finding a lil happiness getting a patch...plaque or whatever for their acheivements playing pool.

You get the achievement by doing it. As the Patriots have stated on why their players don't jump around like clowns in the end zone like other teams, look like you were there before and will be again. You do a break and run, yay, good shooting, but that is the goal of the game. Getting a patch for doing it, now we are in 3rd grade award territory with a gold star for having clean hands. Some league players take the thing way too seriously, every time I am at a place with a league there are people screaming like they found $100,000 in a bag whenever someone makes a ball or wins a game. I go for quiet dignity and respect.

Our TAP league rep is like a 4, but they makes it seem like they are awarding the crown jewels whenever someone beats them and gets a "I beat the LO" patch. I mean really now.

When my team won a trip to Vegas, the crowd said it was the most muted and quiet celebration they have seen for winning, and that's a good thing. There is a team there that also just lost, why jump around in their faces, we won, we move on. No need to make it more of a thing to show off that we won or make the other players feel bad about it. Patches are the same thing, the game you play walks the walk, not the bag of patches in the case.

I'm a 600+ Fargo and an SL 7/9 and I don't have one ;) Close a few times (19-1's) but never a skunk.

It's a well earned patch.

It depends on the LO.
True. I won an MVP tournament some years ago. I won $500, a nice trophy, and a leather jacket. He also posted pictures of MVP tournament winners on the league website. The new league operators are not as generous, but the prize money is still pretty good (I think $300 for first place, no leather jacket, not sure about a trophy).

Well...I've never finished 1st, so I can't tell you from personal experience (finished 2nd a few times). But being #1 is a pretty good feeling, I would think.

Our league gives the MVP a plaque, a patch, and $50, as well.

Wonder how much league operator pockets❓❓❓❓

Our APA had "Top Gun" awards for the top ranked platers in each skill level for each session which awarded a patch and certificate. They then had a Top Gun tournament at the end of the year where the field was made up of that year's Top Gun winners. The winner of that tourney got a cash prize and a leather jacket.

Are you still beating this dead horse. Here is an idea. How about buying yourself a franchise and then you can come on here and tell us how you are sitting on a goldmine.

Well if you happy with a Trophy or Patch go for it. Many league operators are doing well. No I do not want to work at nothing but enjoying life.

Fellow who use to run APA was multimillion aire off Pool. Smart idea, he had before someone beat him to it.

Too me a Trophy or Patch is not much of incentive to play in league. How about a Driedf Cow Tird with Gold Paint for First Place. Cool Trophy.

Anyone who watches an average A.P.A. playoff or tournament knows operators can't possibly be paid enough.
I don't think many of the naysayers on here realize that there are no fees paid durinf higher level tournaments. In other words the lo is not deriving any income from runnimg these tournaments.

During tri cups. Our lo arrives 6.00 pm on thursday and stays until 12.00 pm.
Fdiday 6.00 pm intill 12.00 pm.
Saturday .11.00 am until 12.00 pm.
Sunday. 11.00 am until ..usaully over aroumd 7.00 pm.

Ltc 's

Pretty muxh the same hours but ours runs until monday. 7.00 pm until aroumd 12.00 pm . have seen it run later.

So...4-5 days sitting at a pool hall updating brackets. Entering results from matches into the data base ...fillling out scoresheets for the next round ...with new handicaps if needed.. Being called to observe shots...and listenimg to a shit load of whiners complaing about everything.

Funny, most people do not take abuse fit nothing. If they do they are not bright.

15 years for me now. You and I are very much alike in our approach to league play. Screw that Coke-headed Cowpoke for bringing his negativity onto this thread.

FWIW, I use to get cash for winning the MVP. In Arlington APA it was $50 and a patch. In Tarrant County APA it was $75 and a patch. The last couple of times I won it I only got the patch.

Well I tried leave once, it was totally unorganized.

Went to venue “a”, as instructed. Told by operator we are going cross town.

Problem was too many players, only two tables. I could see long nite, said done.

Went home, hate disorganization. Drive me crazy.👎

So, has to be about the money? You said you're not working hard at anything except enjoying life. That means you must not need the money. So why play pool at all?

I enjoy the game, One Pocket is game I enjoy most.

My point about leave is you got weekly fees, at end of season.

Would be nice to have something more then a Patch or Trophy.

Maybe some.💰
