APA question- about cues

So I played a guy last night that was playing with what I believe to be a snooker cue (I won 17-3 so this is not sour grapes). It looked like the tip was only about 9-10mm with a short brass ferral. Just wondering if that is a legal cue? I seemed to remember there being some restrictions about shaft diameter etc though I think that was a BCA thing. Any of you APA'ers know if there are any equipment restrictions?
 
This is from the APA official Team Manual and what it says under "Equipment" - I hope this helps

"EQUIPMENT
In general, any piece of equipment designed specifically for pocket billiards,
with the exception of jump cues and laser devices, is acceptable in APA
League play. Special equipment, such as bridges and cue extenders, are legal. Jump shots are legal, when executed properly (see JUMP SHOTS described in Definitions), but such shots must be attempted using your regular game cue (see REGULAR GAME CUE described in Definitions). Those cues especially designed for jump shots MAY NOT be used in competition.
Players are not allowed to break their cues down to attempt jump shots.
*Any piece of equipment not covered by this rule and in question will be ruled upon by APA. Cues with moveable parts will generally NOT be allowed."

I think the cue they guy used was fine under this rule
 
Yup....looks like it to me. Would have been a hell of a shark move in the playoffs though (just kidding!)

Do you play in Charlotte, or around there? I remember seeing a guy awhile back at the cities that uses a snooker cue.
 
Even for organizations that observe World-Standardized Rules there would be no problem with what you described. Under those rules, the tip can be no more than 14mm in diameter, but there is no minimum tip diameter. If the ferrule is metal, it can be no longer than 1".
 
i wouldn't mind playing a guy with a long metal ferrule on his cue.....that thing would deflect like crazy!
 
They used to say that you could give Willie Mosconi a broom handle and he could beat you. This guys brass ferral was about 1/2-1/2 inch. He is an APA 8 in 9ball.....sooooo, he certainly knows how to use that cue!

Life lesson....if a guy wants to bet you money that he can beat you at golf (pool, darts, curling or insert your sport here) just using a rake while blindfolded and standing on his head.....trust him...he can.
