APA Rules Answer - Jumping

Funny jump cue argument/story

So a bunch of years ago I'm playing this guy who is a pretty strong 6 in our league. I safety him behind a ball and he goes to get a jump cue out. I point out that it isn't allowed and an argument ensues. I knew the rules and thus won the argument!

Now the funny part, since I won he was forced to kick, and he successfully made contact and pocketed the ball and then ran out the rack anyway. Sigh...he probably would have missed with the jump!

I'm not sure why these rules questions keep coming up. No one here is going to give 'you' the final answer.

APA is a franchise. The only one to give a definitive answer is the L.O. of your league.

That's the final answer unless you wish to contest it with them personally. :)

New invention idea: jump cue that has a hollow butt so that it is weighted similar to a jump cue but looks like a break cue... ;)
It existed. Bob Doss had them advertised in BD years ago. It was called the Doss Jump/Play cue. There was a weighted core that came out of the bottom of the cue. The cue stayed 58" in length, but went down to 13 ounces.

The Buster from Showcase is sort of the same idea. Same with the Lightning break cue.

Your local APA rules and bylaws also override the national rules when it comes to week by week play, best to check with your local APA office for rules on a regular league night.

someone else talked to the national office and they said you could NOT switch cues to do a jump shot, full cue or not. and apparently this was the rule at nationals. i think that person in the national office is wrong. of course local leagues can override it.
