APA you can....

Its all in the thread about the new board members for the wpba but I tell ya..

Mark Griffen (sp) the Bcalp, Csi owner puts his name in the hat for a spot on the board of the wpba. The Apa writes a letter to the Wpba telling them if they vote him on the board they will pull their sponsership.

so lets assume its not petty for them to not use Diamond tables because he has a stake in that and they say there is a conflict of interest, wich is what ? making pool as good as it can be. If sombody thinks them writing a letter to a 3rd party threatening them is ok Im in the wrong game. That, by no stretch is right.

I dont know much but I do know Mark G. has done tons for pool and would be a great addition to any company / org. that wanted to move the game forward.

That action not only shows the apas true colors but is a slap in the face to every player on the tour. Its not whats good for the game/ tour its what the apa thinks might not be good for them. Like Marks first move would be to in anyway do somthing to pissoff one of the tours biggest sponsers.

Who does the Wpba they they are this guy,

I am sorry - but you have made the APA sound a lot more generous than they are.

The APA does NOT pay the advertising dollars for the time slot. They also do not provide additional purse money for the events. The bulk of the money comes from the sites - that is the 'casinos'.

Brunswick USED to contribute a lot of money and the tables. Now they only provide the tables. WPBA has other sponsors and I think the APA 'might' be the biggest - but they do not pay 'that' much.

The problem with the position the APA took is that they are now dictating who the WPBA can do busines with. Historically, the only peole who really sponsor pool are from the industry - so there is always an element of conflict. Tha is just the way it is.

I have had an interest in getting involved with the WPBA - but I am prohibited by the terms of the contract with the APA. So the WPBA has limited their sponsor base in a very small pool of potential sponsors.

TV is a double edged sword. Most of the sponsor money goes toward the production costs. Which is then 'given' to ESPN. This means the players are playing for peanuts - and most cannot survive. So-in reality, TV is busting out pool. Not an ideal situation!

And there is an answer! BUT - that is what I will do. . . . .(soon as I get back from the US Open) lol

As a total outsider and disinterested party, my post was pure speculation. Thanks for correcting the record.

The APA is selfserving period. OK OK so some of you may say all businesses are self serving and to a degree you are correct they have to be if they are a for profit company HOWEVER, any profitable company that has business saavy leaders or boards would see that making decisions based on personal feelings is the recipe for bad business. This APA decision was in no way a business based decision!!!! It makes no sense at all! What conflict exactly? What damage could Mark Griffin do to the APA while being one of 7 board members that must vote? Does Mark Griffin have super duper do what I tell you powers? Im certain the APA owns those potions.
I beleive Mark said it in another post..............didnt the APA pull Diamond tables from their national event and replace them with Valley tables? What conflict did that change because Valley also has a competing league system. hmmmmmmmmm. The only thing I see in that is that its a competing system that Mark G isnt a part of so bad to personal decisions again being bad for business.

For a group that has made so much money and become so large it amazes me that they were able to do it based on business practices they use. It will catch up with them at some point!

There was no business decision here................it was a simple tantrum and the WPBA did what they felt they must! Very sad for pool indeed! Until the APA can step up and do more for pool, Im afraid they may be one of the big reasons that pool will remain disorganized and in the shadows. Its how they like it

I just had an interesting thought .....

Compare this situation to the recent Filapino situation with 2 player organizations - with the APA being the old Filapino organization and Mark Griffin (2 i's no e) being the new player's organization, and then tell me your thoughts again.
