Apa

Focus on the positives, and leave the negative, comparative comments out.

I agree with keeping things positive but see nothing wrong with comparing leagues. Differentation is just good marketing. As you pointed out different leagues have features that will appeal to different players.

Perhaps a new thread should be started where a discussion of what each league offers can take place allowing a comparison for the players to see as a reference. Comparison, surely beats the protectionism that we so often see when people dislike certain leagues and the advocates demand that no one voice an opinion that isn't in a positive light.

Sadly, It would probably turn negative really quick as some leagues have burnt the bridge with several players over the years.

Don't play

Gee...another APA basher. What a surprise. Probably a 7 who wanted to be ranked a 3. The APA is great for what it is. If you don't like it, don't play in it.

Good advice. After playing league pool all but six years since 1966, I don't play APA.
I played:
Three years La Crosse Pool League
Five years Jim Stansfield Pool Leagues
Three years National Pocket Billiard Association
Five years Midwest Pool Association
Seven years Valley National 8-Ball Association
Six years APA
Four years Billiard Congress of America
One year Jewell's 8-Ball League
Five years Hogtown League
Four years Silver Q Leagues
Currently organizing an ACS league...

I enjoyed playing in all the above leagues, with the exception of APA.
A few years back, I was asked to play on an APA team that would pay my annual dues, weekly fees and travel expenses. I turned them down. But that's just me. I'm an eccentric old man who loves pool.

You play 5 years and tell others not to? That's a good one.. eccentric is one way of putting it. I don't offer anyone anything.. if you don't want to play, I sure as hell wouldn't want you on a team anyways.

I ate the whole APA organization and pooed it out. Sorry if you dont like that.

Yeah, well, we already read your whine on it. Sorry if you don't want to remember that. Whine.

"Ill spot you another 8 points to your nit ass if thats how you're gonna be about it" I get a kick out of stuff like this. Spot me 8, I'm an APA player that doesn't use an aiming system or take lessons.

funny how so many people love to bash the APA but yet they are still one of the largest pool leagues around. i have played APA for 8 yrs now and have enjoyed it. STOP the crying if you dont like it dont play it!

just my $.02

Classy! I see you are up to your old shenanigans

Shenanigans?? Really?? You guys are way too serious on here you know that??

I like how most others piss and moan about a lot of things and there's always one. So fella.... What other shenanigans other than the APA rule thread then?? Would love to see the laundry list you have constructed on my bad behaviour

If you'll read my post without being so defensive, you'll see that I didn't tell anyone not to play APA. If I hadn't played APA on and off for those years I wouldn't consider myself qualified to criticize.
I didn't ASK for a free ride on that APA team. They approached me and I turned them down. I didn't think it was fair to the other team members, so I chose not to accept the offer. What sin did I commit?
I,
n my post I merely said I enjoyed the other leagues more than APA and chose not to play APA. Are you saying that I can't criticize APA? I actually signed up 60 players to play in an APA league in 1994 as a favor to the APA director, because I wanted as many different leagues as possible at the venue where I worked.
You make APA sound like a religion, and yourself an "APA fundamentalist". I suppose I'm an APA heretic, and maybe should be burned at the pool table.

It's quite OK that you wouldn't want me on your team. Some folks did and still do.

Go look at your history of posts and read any one of them :p

Let's see..

You titled your post ":) Don't play" and said "I enjoyed playing in all the above leagues, with the exception of APA." Now you backtrack and say you only enjoyed the other ones more.

I'm no fundamentalist and you're no heretic, but I'm gonna call people out on this kind of stuff. I enjoy the game, I've had to learn on my own and I'm tired of hearing so many players talk smack without having a leg to stand on. To your credit, you've actually got something to back it up with, for most people it is simply the "I've become a 5, so I'm too good for it." I've hit 7/9 with no lessons, no great players to learn from and no lifetime of playing, just a will to do something well and a desire to relax and have fun after doing my 9-5 M-F.

I'm not here to kiss arse and make friends, I'm just here to talk about pool.. if I make friends, cool, if not, no loss. But, I will defend the league that got me into the game and provides not only entertainment to plenty of people but also a doorway to playing pool.

Ahahahahaha like I said people can be a little bit too serious on here. Hell I had one member I saw at the Turning Stone thought my posts are pretty funny on here. I guess I can't be all that bad ;)

Comparative comments?

shootergirl...You should start your own thread about your league, rather than attempting to put down the APA. It is good for what it provides. No doubt your league offers some benefits as well (all leagues have their pros and cons). Focus on the positives, and leave the negative, comparative comments out.

How can someone make an informed decision on which league system to join, without hearing "comparative" comments from folks who have played in the various league systems? Granted, you can go their websites and see what they offer, but none of them (to my knowledge) post anything about their problems andor criticism from former members.
I like to think of AZ as the place to exercise freedom of speech. It's the counterpoint to one-sided promotion and big $ advertising.

You're one of my favorite AZ posters; I hope you don't mind my mild disagreement occasionally!

Sorry, didn't mean to overlook this piece of work.

Yeah, you had a problem with a rule dispute, so you went chump on him.

How about I spot you an s/l in 8 or 9.

My idiotic arse.. I'll give you the same spot on an IQ test.

For the title of your post you should have clearly stated what APA area area you were directing this towards. The APA is all around the United States. There are many great operators and this post could really make some people unhappy because you did not clearly state.

i just dont understand why so many people have such a disdain for the apa. i have played in it for 16 months now and i have not experienced all the bad things i hear from a bunch of you bashers.

i just have not seen all the drunks, ball bangers , slop makers , sandbaggers , non serious pool players that you say makes the apa the worse league to play in.

let me share my league experience.

my 1st league was bcapl. i played it for a year before dropping out for 2 years for personal reasons.

during my time in it i went from a 3 to a 7. i did not like some of the rules but was ok playing by them. my experience quickly turned sour when the lo started making poker a priority over pool. he was running poker tournaments in the same room at the same time as the pool matches. he was getting people to play in both at the same time, more money for him.

it got frustrating when it was your turn to play and your opponent was at the poker table.

after a 2 year hiatus i got back into league and was not supprised to find out bcapl was gone and now apa was here.

i have a serious question here.

are all the people that were playing bcapl and now currently playing apa suddenly turn into low life drunks, ball bangers, slop makers and sandbaggers , and non serious pool players ?

in my opinion a league experience should be based on how you interact with other pool players and how well a lo runs a league , not by what rules are playing by.

my league experince and what i think of playing in it.

bcapl, did not like some rules and did not like how it was ran. but i enjoyed playing pool.

apa, dont like slop, but i can fade it and just concentrate on outplaying them.

memphis pool league, its a money league. dont like slop or how serious some people get but it is money on the line. like collecting money at the end of the session :)

napa league, i love it :) !

i currently play on 3 apa teams, i money team and 1 napa team every week. i love playing pool

If your new to the Nashville area and want to join a league, think twice before you join the APA league. The league director is not someone that is very honest. That is my personally thoughts.

Damn. A fine post and claim.

Wonder if there is a correlation between your statement and the red showing under your reputation.

Newbie appears to be receiving an education.
