Apology to the forum

Folks:

It's been a good while since I stopped by the 14.1 forum, and to be honest, I miss you folks. You might recall that I abandoned the forum due to a tiff with a couple of members here. Well, during the time I'd been gone -- and it's interesting how life works -- other priorities came into play at that precise moment. Some changes in my work schedule (I'm an I.T. network security consultant), some family issues to help out with (parents), and some good news on the personal front (my g/f of two years Lisa and I decided to move in together -- she moved into my townhouse).

But all through this time, it'd been nagging me that I abandoned the forum the way I did, and that I let a few people (one or two people, actually) out of a crowd of many drive me off. And I never stopped playing this, one of my two ultimate favorite games, 14.1. Don't get me wrong, the hiatus was good for me, and it sort of broke my addiction to AZB (i.e. wanting to know what's going on here the instant it happens). It's just I miss my friends here.

So I'd like to offer an apology to the forum and the members here. I humbly apologize for that incident several months ago where I added unnecessary drama to these boards. If you'll have me back, I'd like to be back.

I can offer you the following promises:
  1. I'll not let attacks against my opinion bother me. For that matter, even personal attacks will be met with very thick skin.
  2. If I have a problem with someone, I'll take it up with that person individually and privately. Never in a public forum.
  3. I'll NEVER post private communiqués (PMs) to a public forum. You can take this one to the bank. This is something I believed in from the very beginning; so much so, that I'll even take the hit -- as I did several months ago -- and be the fall guy for a situation where I'm not the only one responsible. I'd rather leave my neck on the chopping block than lower my standards or violate my fundamental ethics.
  4. That my posts will always be on-topic, helpful, inspirational, thoughtful, motivational, tolerant, respectful (this is a big one in my book!), and if you don't mind my whacky sense of humor at times, "feel good" funny.
I guess it's my ex-military background reminding me to always leave things better than when you left them. I felt bad in how I abandoned this forum, dedicated to one of the games I love, and full of folks that I respect and admire.

I apologize to everyone here, and most of all to Charlie and Steve, the two guys that exemplified class in allowing me to participate in the SBE 14.1 Challenge, even after I'd violated one of my four principles described above (specifically, #2). Charlie and Steve, you guys are pure class, and I'm honored to be in the same room with you, much less on the same table as you.

So if you folks will have me back, I'd like to be back. Thoughts?

Humbly and thankfully,
-Sean

P.S.: my work schedule is such these days that I definitely won't be able to participate nearly as often as I used to. Not even close. It's sort of like a "hit and run" method of participation; if I can spare the time on my breaks at work, and there's no other fires to put out, I read/post, and then quickly disconnect to get back to what I was doing. I guarantee that what I can spare the time to offer, will conform to the four principles mentioned above.

P.P.S.: it might take me a good while to come up to speed on what's been going on / what are the hot topics of discussion / who made a new personal high run since I'd been gone.

Thumbs Up

Sean, glad you are back, way to go.

PS: maybe it is time to marry that wonderful girl. She must be wonderful, if she tolerates you. Better hold on to her...... LOL

Sean- I'm old enough to be your father so the next time you are in town I will offer you a father type hug.

Huh?

Hoooooleeeeee smokes!...is that our Sean on the porch! How's it going? Well, I guess from your post I'm up to speed on how it's going. Congrats on the decision to cohabitate. Between that and your self-imposed rules up above it sure seems like you enjoy painting yourself into a corner! Hope everything works out with you and the little lady. What's new with me? A lot I guess. But, sadly nothing to do with pool. Well, I'm off to bed. Good to see you again and hope you're going to stay around a while.

Ron

PS: If you split again keep in touch. I'm taking a grad level course in MIS and may need you for the final!

The prodigal son returns, welcome back sean and look forward to reading your insights into our wonderful world of 14.1.

Welcome back...

Many friendships are made on forums like these, and everyone has their differences from time to time, but what makes friendships real and lasting is the abilty to put aside the differences and move on.

Thanks for the kind thoughts and welcoming, folks! Also, the good-natured ribbing is appreciated as well. Lisa and I are a great team, and yes, she's an angel for putting up with me -- self-imposed borders and all. :) (Don't worry Mike, we'll see what our future has in store for us.)

Although a beginner, I'm getting her into 14.1, and she's an avid student. She sees the beauty in the game, compared to the rotation fare commonly played and seen on TV.

Thanks again, and I hope to contribute soon,
-Sean

Sean: Welcome back. You are a good 14.1 player and good with the words and you have been missed. I will take an exit stage left for a while and only comment when I have something helpful to add.

Adios

There's no need to leave or step aside on account of me. You offer a lot to these forums. Your video contributions alone are very significant. And, to be honest, I don't think anyone's playing skill should have an overarching "say" in these forums, either. Everyone should be able to contribute and discuss topics of interest, regardless of his/her playing ability.

Actually, something another respected forum member said (Doug S., or "Salamander" in these parts) has ringing true to me for a while now. And that is that this is JUST A FORUM. A discussion board. Nothing more. There's nothing in here that's life-changing or anything that one should get his/her hackles up about, or take "life and death" seriously. For most, these boards are just an appeasement. Like a cigarette. (Although I don't smoke, I understand the perceived -- and misprioritized -- "need" to be here and place emphasis on things discussed here.) But in the big picture of things, it ain't no thing. And that's the outlook I have now.

So there's no need for side-stepping at all. I plan to (actually, I may have no choice but to, due to work schedules) be a quiet contributor. A friendly presence, willing to help where I can spend a quick minute.

I hope you can join me.

Best,
-Sean

Good to see you back in the 14.1 section. I look forward to seeing posts from you. The one thing I like about this sub forum beyond the game we all love is that generally we do not hate on each other and build each other up. I hope to run a 44 and am going cheer on anyone who runs their own goal whatever next number in their journey to 100 and beyond. Myself I am more of a lurker than a poster but I feel we all have something to say. I hope you post more and I hope my buddy DMG keeps on doing all he does including posting as well as all the video stuff.
