app for predicting ball path?

i am wanting to study the path taken by a ball off the rail when various effects are applied to the ball. of course the obvious way to do that is to hit the ball various ways and see where it goes, which i do. however, i am all of five feet tall, and i don't want to stand right up after shooting, so i am having trouble getting good perspective on the subtle differences in ball path. i am a visual learner, and those videos from above really help me with this. dows anyone know of an app that lets you enter different parameters and it shows where the ball would go? like if i hit the cue at a point on the rail with low left versus high left, or whatever. or hit an object ball at the rail with those parameters. thanks!

p.s. maybe you guys have already covered this on the forum, but beng new i was having trouble wading through old posts. why do people put so much off topic on this forum? food and obama and tv shows - wow!

If we didn't have food and Obama and tv shows, we'd be stuck with nothing to talk about except for drunken men pushing balls into holes with ridiculously expensive sticks all day.
Or at least that's what my wife thinks of pool.

hahah! Mine too.

You know, I think we were pretty well-behaved, judging from the company I had on the train ride home from our time with Chi!!! You could be doing worse.
 
Yeah, I'm just a broken shell of my former wild self. I used to use toilet paper without even thinking about tearing it along the perforations, now the wife's not having any of that.

Did you run into those train gropers again? Japanese people do the darndest things!
 
Here's an Easy way. Ball tap in a spot where the cue ball will Always start from. Shoot and watch the changes that take place when you strike the same spot on a rail or a ball and realize the outcome. Nice thing about the cue ball ''It Never Lies''.
 
Mike Page of Fargo Billiards has some great videos on Youtube explaining this topic about as clearly as is humanly possible.

Damn, I wish I knew there was groping on the trains. Sounds fun, though it was mostly guys in ties. :shrug:

Now that I know you might get crazy with the TP...I might have to reconsider letting you/ yours stay with me in DC.

Well, after reading all the posts I guess the answer is, 'no ones got time for that'.
 
I second the idea to play around with one of the Virtual Pool games. Any of them have great physics. The issue may be applying the same amount of force each time to get consistent results.
 
I think the best way to accomplish it is to take video of you shooting the shots. Before every shot speak clearly announcing what english and speed you're using, where your target is on the table, etc.

There are books and videos that will show you where the CB goes...but it's for that table, that shooter, etc. Your results will be different, so it's great to review your shots on video.

Best advice yet. The heck with the games and videos. Get yourself to a pool table and hit thousands and thousands of shots like the rest of us. That is the best way of learning things like that. Strategy is different but you have to know where the cue ball is going by instinct during a match. You can't stop and review the video. Knowledge builds confidence. Confidence= victories.
