I believe Darren has been underated over the years
IMO his body of work is as stellar as anybody out there and at his peak was one of the best on earth

One of the few shots in my life that gave me the bumps, when he did it.
Then to finish that extremely difficult pattern for the win, was ''True Grit''.

Underrated? LOL. I believe he was elected to the BCA Hall of Fame the first time his name appeared on the ballot. He's a recognized legend in pro pool.
Darren is not the first, he is the "only" to run 200 in recognized competition. It is the all time high run in competition.
Yes, it was a classic run. I was there watching it and won't forget it. The highlight, for me, was when Bustamante swept the balls when the match was over. At least there are a few people left who realize that balls run past the finish line in straight pool amount to practice and are, essentially, meaningless.
Sort of. Back in the day there were challenge matches played between the game's best to 1,000 points which were played over a four-day span. I was there in Queens, NY, in the early 1980's when Jack Colavita ran 245 in one such match.
Some will suggest that the "runs continued past the finish line" that are now allowed at the American 14.1, some of which exceed 200, should count, but I would disagree.
The best way to recognize Darren's run is to say that it was the only time a player ran 200 and out in a standard tournament match.
I’ve always liked the purity of the game….you need every ball you make. In snooker, 73 is the most important run, most century runs are vanity unless there’s a high run prize.
….when I was very young, I watched a long session of 14 in Harlem…..an older champion was playing a guy 100 to 75 for a few hundred…
…the guy getting the spot was betting his last $700 …the champ ran 99 and missed a hanger…chuckled…the other guy ran 75 and out.…a few games later, the young guy was asking for more side action…he broke all the bettors.
I never got to play the game enough but I always liked it…ran 84 my first shot…if you can run centuries at snooker, you already know a lot about running centuries at straight pool.
