Hello All:

In a previous thread I mentioned that I have a Rat cue that just felt mushy and didn't work for me. I thought the Porper ferrule he used was the problem. Just for grins and giggles I took the cue with me last night when I went to my local Cue doctor to have my break cue worked on.

He took it and banged it around and thought the ferrule was fine. He thought the Everest on it went to pot. I never even considered it. I have Everests on a few other cues. They work great. Never thought one would turn to mush. It did. I had him put on a hard Wizzard tip. And voila the cue hits better than new. Crisp and tight just like I like them.

I never said that Ryan made a bad cue. He doesn't. I love the cue just hated the hit. If I offended anyone I am here to appologize. Ryan you make a hell of a good cue at a fantastic price. I'll still be taking you up on another shaft next year. I've got 2 cues coming in the next month so money's a little tight right now. But I want another shaft for it for some of the fast tables we have around here.

Did it get wet somehow? That can totally ruin a tip.
Yes, I've had many cues brought to me that are stored behind the bar in a soft case that became wet. Sometimes, the tenon will even swell upward allowing a gap between the tip, and ferrule.

Nope, kept dry in a case in my bedroom. Never got wet or abused. Th tip just went mushy. Probably delaminated internally. No idea why, not normal for Tiger products. Hence the ferrule thoughts. Played that way pretty much after about a m0nth of use. Hence the mystery and need for this post. Gotta do right by Ryan, to my thinking.

That is very good of you to appologise.
Did you remove the post about how unhappy you were about his cue?

No I didn't. It wasn't a knock on Ryan. As a matter of fact I praised his work. I think he makes a great cue for the money. His work is impeccable. I just stated in that post that the cue didn't meet my needs. He was slightly bummed about it and offered to fix it. I kinda felt it wasn't his fault. So I never took him up on it.

I wanted to tell him he did NO WRONG at all. I felt it necessary to tell him it was a defective tip. The rest of that post praised his work. I still think his work is underrated and undervalued. I just felt the need to publicly state Ryan did nothing wrong. And provided a superior product. The tip was at fault not his work or choice of components. I'll try to PM him later. Just trying to do what I feel is right.

I don't know what the original thread was, but if I were you I'd edit the oringal post to add that you discovered that the tip was the problem.

I commend you for your follow-up post, and consider it a lesson learned. Many people fail to realize just how much something as simple as a tip can affect the overall hit and playability of a cue, given one's preferences. Also, just because a particular tip may work well on one cue does not necessarily mean that it translates to all cues. It is definitely the easiest and least expensive part of the cue to experiment with.

Agreed. The original post can be left intact with a footnote added to say that the issue was the tip, not the hit of the cue.

My hat is off to you Mark, it is very important to admit our mistakes publicly when we make comments about some ones work, or give an opinion about how their cue plays. It is very refreshing to here some one stand up and apologize for incorrect comments that were made, and I hope others learn a lesson form this and take the time to check things out before they speak or type something on the net.

Thanks for your honesty
