Approximate Estimated Value On Jim Buss Cue

I was asked the other day if this cue was for sale. Having never considered it, I immediately answered "No."

Afterwards I was curious as to the value. Anticipating future medical procedures and associated costs, it would be in my best interest to have a ball park figure in mind, just in case.

The cue is 58", even split with two shafts, both with matching ringwork. The ferrules are unknown, whatever Jim was using in 2011. They both have a nice fiddleback figure.
The butt has 8 points, four purpleheart with four veneers of black, purple, blue and natural and four (I believe) rosewood points. The nose is nicely figured BEM. Butt sleee is cocobolo. Rings at all five positions. Removable brass Schon style weight bolt.
Cue is in excellent condition. No dings, dents or scratches. Linen wrap is clean and tight.

I have no photo of entire cue, only the sections seen here.

Thankyou.

Jim was a very respected cue maker - great construction - super good guy to work with - he did some work for me back in 2001.

Value on his cues - Probably this one at a wide range of $700 to $1200 depending on who knows his work and who likes this particular cue set up. This is my best somewhat educated estimate.

Jim Buss…I recall reading years ago that he wasn’t allowed to leave the continental USA because of his work for the government.

Jim used to live in Houston and was a rocket scientist working for NASA. I met him when he was first starting out and saw some of his early work. Super good dude.

I don't think I'd take $1,200 for it. Not disputing Mike but I'd keep for anything less than $1700 because it's nice. I'd ask $2k and go from there.

Actually met him at a Slick Willies pool hall where Willie Elder ran a weekly tourny. People like Jersey Red and UJ Puckett plus a bunch of other great old timers used to come play in it. Both super cool and funny guys.

I think 2k is a stretch. However I really dig this cue and probably wouldn’t sell it for under 1700-2k like you’re suggesting.

The odd thing is that the butt sleeve doesn’t match the forearm in anyway. Which is a bit odd in today’s world of symmetry. But I like it.

I believe the cue is worth 1200. I think the market would bring 900-1400.

Personally I think it’s a keeper but respectfully I wouldn’t expect anything nearing 2k for it.

Regardless it’s a sharp looking cue by a respectable maker.

$1300-1500. This is close.
Great person, excellent cuemaker.
You don’t see his cues for sale because the owners want to keep them.

Jim was a great friend, and stayed at our home for several days at a time
on over 30 occasions over the years.
Usually while Shooters Olathe tournaments were on.
