Are Corey and Melling the 2 best at dissecting an 8 ball rack ever?

Not that many of the posts in this thread pertain to the thread topic, which asks who analyzes a layout best, not who plays the best 8ball. Corey and Melling are firmly in this conversation. I'd put Appleton, Efren, and Woodward in there, too.
Skor seems to take threads away from the intended topic.

Here are some fun facts:
1. In the WPA ranking there are 3 American players at the top 100, the top one is Jeremy Sossei placed at 65

2. In the Matchroom ranking, SVB is 12th. Woodward is 18th. Styer is 22nd. A total of 13 players in the top 100

3. Out of 59 players that a fargo higher than 800, there are only 4 Americans that one of them is Gorst that you can’t attribute his pool skill to American billiards.

4. AZB money leader, 27 out of the 100 are Americans.

These are sad numbers if you compare them to 20-30 years ago.

There are many factors to these numbers, playing on 7ft tables is not the only factor, but it’s one of them for sure.

Is that the one that had a soft field?
Pretty much same players that you see in the final stages of all the big pro tournaments on the last year.
If that’s soft, I want to see what’s hard?
Oh I know ultimate pool…

Jesus dude, settle down. I meant the one where all of the WNT players didn't play. I think Albin and Josh were the only superstars, right?

Watch Filler matches on youtube.
Does it matter who is in the chair?
The question was about pattern play and 8ball. A lot of names were dropped, all great but I think that right now, filler is on top and maybe SVB is second.

Melling is invested in Heyball, it’s a different game, he won’t be able to compete with pool players. Same goes for Cory these days.

True enough, and that's partly (maybe mainly?) my fault. Sorry 'bout that.

I'd argue that Bergman is as good as any of them at taking apart an 8-ball rack. Breaking one? Maybe not so much.

azb threads often turn quickly
into people writing long stories about themselves
and whatever else they want to talk about

yeah the one were no one showed up.
That was the one where the sponsor was Predator…..and Joshua is sponsored by Predator….and most posters on here act they would’ve walked away from that relationship….I think they feel they’re good at managing someone else’s money.

LOL, and when SVB won his only World 9-ball, the world's best player at the time, Fedor Gorst, didn't play because WPA was boycotting Russian players, but nobody puts an asterisk there. Yes, the field was weaker than usual at last year's World 8-ball, too, but it was still tough, and there are no asterisks in pool .... accept among the Filler haters on the Internet, who will wake up one day and wonder why they were not more attentive watching the greatest 9ball player our game has ever seen.

To be a champion, one need not beat those that choose not to join the fight, only those that do.

And, of course, Filler seems to beat the most elite international fields all over the world on a much more regular basis than Shane or any other player ever did. At 27, Josh has won two WPA sanctioned world championships, the same as Shane. He has also won the US Open 9ball. He has also won the China Open, the UK Open, the European Open, the Qatar Open, and the World Games gold medal, and Shane has not won any of them.

If you want soft, try the just completed UK Open, where none of SVB, Gorst, FSR, Chua, Ko Pin Yi, Ko Ping Chung, Raga and Ouschan were in the field. Did you remember to put an asterisk next to Yapp's title and will you be regularly pointing out how soft that field was going forward?

Back to being serous

I watched Cory run a clean 10 pack (not counting the rack before the 10
Pack or the next rack where he missed) i saw 10 clean in the middle.

Was in Deluth against Thorp in a race to 15 barbox tourney in 2017 or 18 (too lazy to look it up) as I recall SVB won the tourney.

Anyways I did see Cory run 10 on the 7’ Diamond. Wasn’t recorded back then, was on a outter table from the camera table.

We’ve seen Melling run out from nowhere a lot of times too.

However while I haven’t seen Efren run 10, I have seen him find shots nobody else could ever find, I’ve had long conversations with elite players about Efren’s ability to see things nobody else can and there’s no disagreement on that point. Now was Efren the best? No not at 8B, but seeing things that aren’t there but are he was the best. Which makes him win this topic of the OP.

So in the spirit of the OP it’s my conclusion that Wfren is the correct answer, even tho I personally seen Cory run more, watched video of Melling running crazy outs. Efren gets my vote.

Can SVB out shoot Efren? Yeah maybe, sure, Appleton Ralf are all amazing players. Watch Boyes play 8B sometime, they are all great in one way or another.

But the OP imo the player is prime Efren because he sees it and executes it. Clearly prime Efren is in the past. But he gets the nod

That’s the serous answer with reasons not just BS.

Had the OP been “who shoots best” different reasons and answers.

Fatboy 💪🫡

Not sure what the tone of your message was here, but I'll try to clarify my stance a bit for you since you took the time to write such a thoughtful response. I don't put asterisks on anything with pool history. I love watching good pool, but honestly don't care about pool stats or history much. I asked if that was the tournament he was referring to since he used it as a way to establish Josh as a dominant 8-ball player (which everyone who isn't hiding under a rock already knows). I love watching Josh anytime he is on a pool table, he's incredible.

I also would agree with you that the UK Open was a softer field. Hard to debate that one. Why would you ask if I'd be pointing that out regularly as some form of discrediting Yapp? He's also one of my favorite players. Do you see me coming on here often doing this type of stuff? You're response seemed like you were somehow offended at my asking which tournament he was referring to.
