i saw a thread in the main forum regarding
what do joint protectors do???
so im asking what do they do and is it a worthwhile investment to protect your cue???

they do several things. protect the joint pin from being bent. help keep air therefore humidity away from the unsealed wood at the joint. mostly though they protect the edge of the joint collar from being chipped or dented. also of u have a big case like I do its a good place to put a label so you can find the right shaft in a dark bar or pool room and it makes it easier to get shafts out of case. its cheap insurance.

You can spend $20 for a set of 3 delrin JPs or $300 for a custom set. I wouldn't have a cue without a set. As stated above, it's cheap insurance and good protection for your pin and shaft.

I agree with the three replies you have gotten so far. A small price to pay to protect your expensive cues from damage. One more thing that hasn't been said is that they also protect the top cover of your case. Constant contact from the pin on your cue to the padding will eventually poke a hole through the material. So yet another reason for joint protectors.

thanks for the replies
i always thought they were more than just for show
glad the experts confirmed that
