As politically incorrect as it may be, there is much truth to Billy's statements.

Among my experiences, I have met many women that, while being decent players, could not physically move the cue fast enough to pull of a decent break or even a long draw shot. There are VERY few men that lack the strength.

The men who can't pull off hard breaks and long draw usually have problems in the areas of timing and stroking straight rather than being physically unable. Timing and stroking straight can be fixed through practice. Many women would have to add weight lifting to their practice regiment to reach the strength of you average guy.

This lack of strength may not seem like much because long draw doesn't come up extremely often and pool is considered a "finesse" game, but being able to pull off the tough shots generally makes it much easier to make the easy shots as well. This may be a small advantage for any given shot, but over the long run small advantages like this build up to huge advantages over long sets.

There are women who do have the strength to pull off decent breaks and long draw, but the percentage is much lower than the men. That fact alone would significantly decrease the amount of women that have the potential to make it to the top ranks.

Add in to that the fact that there are probably 1/50 the amount of competitive women vs men, and you basically shrink the talent pool to a number so small that it is very unlikely that a top pro will come out of it.

Jasmin finished 3rd in the 2008 Straight Pool World Championships behind Niels Feijen and Francisco Bustamante. By doing so, she conquered a lot of myths about male vs female, and left one hell of a trail of destruction.

Yeah - how many elite male players did she destroy that week? This isn't slopping in the 9 to win -- this is getting to 150 balls FIRST.

She's allowed to beat ANY guy on ANY day in 14.1. Nobody HAS to win a game of 14.1 against her. People should show a little more respect for her firepower.... girl or no girl.

I'd love to give the eight to Jasmin. LOL

I'd love to eight Jasmin out... I mean(!)... I'm sure Jasmin would love to get eight out... I mean(!)... oh heck, I don't know what I'm saying. I'll give her anything she wants! :o

break is secondary to hand-eye coordination, use a 3rd party breaker in a mixed match and the men still win, just not as often

and some of you people seriously think men should be allowed in women's events?

watch sports much?

Its a great question, but I don't think it can be answered with any level of accuracy. Certainly the top women don't stack up to the top men right now, but one could postulate that it is because there are less women playing in general. Normally, if that were true, I would think that would only change the percentage of women that could play at the men's top level, with some still making it there. However, it appears that the top 3 or 4 females would not break at least the current top 30 men on a consistent basis from the tournament results.

These results are spot-on when you consider that on average there is about 1 female for about every 12 males playing in local events. The ratio of women playing in local events may actually be a little smaller. This would suggest that there is no discrepancy in individual tallent between women and men in pool.

If those results were spot on, wouldn't there be 2-3 women in the top 30 as opposed to 0? Also, I doubt there are any women that could be considered top 100, much less 30. There are just too many good male players.

Another low class statement regarding women on AZ Billiards.
