Hi all,

A freind of mine have a local cuerepair guy build him a shaft equipped yellow micarta with extra charge, I've checked the ferrule in person while we do not think it is anything like the genuine yellow micarta and I need your pros to identify for me, I hate those guys making unfair advantadges with counterfeits.

These ferrules looks like woven material such as melamine (but stained in yellow), from what I have seen before, I believe real yellow micarta should only have grain instead of tiny woven squares.

Mine are not that dark or has the streaking in them. However, I also know that mine are NOT the original Westinghouse yellow Micarta. I am not sure of what they are constructed of, (the maker has had this stock for quite some time), but there is no noticeable grain to them either, like that found in linen phenolic. Mine look and play GREAT!!!

THe old yellow micarta had no cloth/linen weave.
The Schon micarta ( I have 3 of them ) are clean looking too.

Interesting Joey...perhaps that's what mine are...I honestly have no clue, and do not like asking makers to give up their 'secrets'.

Mason...mine are actually just a tad bit darker than the pic...as it was taken out in the sunlight...but not much darker. Also, they are very clean, with regards to no visible grain...I just recheck to be absolutely sure. They are winners, to be sure! :yeah:

your cuemaker was nice enough to send me some of his material to check out about a year ago,and i really liked it.i sent him some of mine when i finally got it(took like 3-4 months to actually complete the first order).mine was lighter than his, that is why i was asking.either i am sure it is good stuff.

looks like mine!

I'm not a cue maker and I'm not trying to say that know anything about this stuff because I know nothing except what my eyes are seeing; but, I have a Jensen cue that I bought from Mike in 1989 that has the yellow micarta ferrule. It looks EXACTLY like that. I know that the material is the "real" yellow micarta because I just saw Mike last week and when he saw my shaft he said, "Wow, this old yellow micarta material is worth a fortune these days." Unless I'm looking at something differently, that's what mine looks like.

I have some that I believe to be the old stuff. I'm willing to trade a little for comparison, if you like.
