ok, this was touched upon briefly in another post, so i thought i would get straight to the point. cut to the chase here.

some of the "Feats" that posters on here say they have done makes me think there are a lot of extremely good players that post here. and it also makes me think "Gee, Why Arent They A Pro? Or Playing In Big Time Pro Tournaments?" if they are that capable?

i guess my question is - are you posters really that good? running 5 racks in a row is quite a feat, not losing a match in 55 tries is quite impressive, and so forth and so on.

or is there alot of BS that goes on here by posters and their abilities?

I'm not that good...don't know about everybody else. I was just having a good variation from the norm. It happens in the long run.

I've never lied about my ability but then again I've not been telling stories about 5-packs...lol. For some reason I can't even seem to get three. I think it boils down to the fact that I need to work on my break, as well as my focus and stroke and other fundamentals and the pre-shot routine, among other things that is.

I could never shoot a six pack....drink it but not shoot it.

Fred

ps- I'd go with gold cloth.

I believe a lot of what people say is true but you must keep in mind that in many cases, these are one-time feats. Pool allows you that, if you play long enough. My best example is how I beat Mika Immonen 9-8. I should also mention that the set I won was sandwiched around two shut-outs and during our previous session, he beat me five sets in a row for a combined score of 45-3. For the record, I'd like to mention that days after he gave me that five-set beating, he went on to win the World Championship but that didn't stop me from wanting to give up pool forever! It really was one of the most humbling experiences in my pool life.

In sum, you must realize that there is overlap between virtually all players. If you play great and Efren plays poorly, you can beat him. Not everyone would like to admit that they may have been the benefactor of an anomoly but sometimes, that is the case. So as a result, no I don't think that I'm a slight underdog against Mika. I know I'm a HUGE underdog but I do know I can beat him and if I can say that about him, I can say it about anybody. And the only way you hold on to that confidence is to remind yourself of it. The internet has quickly become a popular place to do just that.

I think you did get several serious replies. What would a forum be without the people (Fred, Joseph, Mikey, Carl, John, Peter, Paul, and Mary) cracking jokes in the various threads?

Hey DrCue. My 4 pack was a phenom. It has and will probably never EVER happen again. Although I wish it would. Doh! Sometimes I'll break and start running out and start to realize that I'm doing it and get so caught up in that realization that I screw up the runout. That's what it's been ever since. sigh

Is someone suggesting they do these things on a consistent basis?

I think these feats are achievable once in a great moon by any decent player. I've B&R 6 in a row, but that was one time. If I ever get a double, it's something to celebrate with many drinks. In one league session when the stars were aligned, I lost three games out of fifty. I wouldn't bet on it happening again any time soon.

I've never claimed to be a great player. Decent but I'm not going to string racks together or play lights out, anyone who remembers the Drivermaker invitational got a pretty good idea as to how good or bad some of the posters on the board are.

That reminds me. I've gotta start practicing for this years invitational!!

Well..I never.
No seriously I never,my best in 14.1 is 47 balls, 3pack in 9-ball(actually 3 8/9). Serious enough? My humourous attempt at a reply was to let you know you WORRY TOO MUCH about things. Just clear your mind and PLAY and ENJOY the GAME!
