Artemis Tournament Cloth

My friend is having his table recovered and new cushions installed.

He's considering k55 profile and Artemis Tournament cloth. I've never heard of that cloth so I"m wondering what you experienced people have to say.

Any help will be appreciated.

Artemis, imo makes the best cushion but no cloth! Simonis would be the way to go. As far as using k55 cushion, he should use the correct profile for which the table was made. :)

Hi Jim,
I think he might be confused. Artemis is a rubber company in West Germany which makes very good cushions. They can be had in k55 & k66. He also should only get the profile that are correct for his table.

lol...you beat me to the button.

Neilson's Billiards in Springfield told him they want to install Artemis Tournament cloth. That's all I know. I've never heard of it but that's what he told me. They are also willing to install k55 or k66 rubber per his wish.

Artemis does not make billiard cloth.
A responsible mechanic would install the correct cushion profile that the table requires.

IMO your friend needs to check with other installers in his area.

Giving advice like that, I'd have to agree, find someone else that knows what they're talking about:confused:

I bet he's talking about Armand Billiard cloth. Since they just came out with it.
Armand aquired the Velocity Pro brand when they bought C L Bailey.
To my knowledge they haven't renamed the cloth or any of the brands they now own.

Armand also owns Aramith who sells the Fusion table which comes with Velocity cloth installed.

I'll bet you're right and that my friend got the names mixed up. What do you think of that cloth? Any experience?

They want $800 to install new Artemis cushions and this Tournment cloth. Is that reasonable?

IMO, if you are going to use the best quality cushion, i would do the same with the cloth. If you do a little search, i think you would find the majority
of people prefer simonis cloth.

Let's not get too wrapped up in marketing name gimmicks such as "Tournament".
There's a wide variety of cloth styles used in tournaments but on the pro level I think most would agree
that Simonis is used more then any other cloth but it's not branded as Simonis Tournament Cloth.

It can be confusing when you hear colors like Tournament Blue and Tournament Green or style names
like Granito Tournament 2000. Buying cloth is like buying bread, many different brands and styles
but cloth costs a lot more the bread so it's important to make a good purchase decision.

There's about a $100 difference between K66 and K55 Artemis cushions.
I'd be a bit skeptical if the $800 quote didn't address the cushion profile to be installed.

I think the friend needs to get a written itemization and at least 1 more quote before commiting the job.
Further, I'd want the cushions replaced on-site and not at the shop so I could verify they were in fact, Artemis.
Once the rail cloth is installed there's no telling what cushions were used.

Good call Dartman. I would definitely want to see the cushion rubber that they installed. I saw where Velocity was mentioned but keep in mind, Aramith just came out with their own cloth too. I know they own Velocity but the new Aramith Cloth is supposed to be comparable to Simonis. We'll see..........
