Arthur Cranfield Straight Pool Bible

I read it maybe 4-5 years ago. Don't remember many specifics but I do remember finding it very valuable. The concepts were easier to understand than Phil Cappelle's book. I'd definitely recommend it (and if I run across a copy I'll buy it myself).

At that price, I'd go ahead and purchase George Fels' 'how would you play this?" 14.1, 9ball and 8 ball patterns

the Bible is a great book, worth more than the cost. 14.1 players that have read the book that all learned something from it.

IMO it is one of the Must have books for anyone that plays 14.1

Thanks for the tip...I bought a copy of Babe's book and the "pleasures of small motions" one...can't wait to drop that title on my wife and see how she reacts before she finds out its a pool book.
 
its one of my favorite books mostly because i love reading about the old time players but has alot of knowledge in it as well,,,but still i think the most knowledgeable book on straight pool i ever read is capelles by far,,
 
I frequently pick up this book and reread sections. It presents tips that can be applied to all games, not just straight pool. One bit of advice that has been particularly helpful to me is the suggestion that you look at each shot from the straight-in perspective before getting down to shoot. I have quite a library of pool books, most of which I've bought used via amazon. Rather than rating one over the others, I've found that each of them has something special to offer.
 
My favorite tip is to practice shots you're not very good at... it sounds so simple, but sometimes I find myself getting frustrated with difficult practice shots and going back to one's I know I can make... but his advice makes me bear down and keep trying..

I just started reading the book and I'm encouraged by what I've read so far.

He made a good point about people shying away from practicing what is uncomfortable for them. It never will be comfortable unless you set your mind to it and practice it. Nice thought.

Also, he said the transition from a 50 ball runner to a 100+ ball runner is in making the correct position play decisions at the correct times. I'm stuck in a rut of not getting past 3-4 racks (45-55 balls) so I'm hoping this book will help me launch a long run. My CB has always been my achilles heal and he said that's the subtle change that gets you over the hump.
 
I just picked up this book last weekend, and it was a great buy. It had a few things not covered in Cappelle's straight pool book.
