I got a couple of snooker cue butts today from an old timer at the hall.
One is a Trophy, not in great shape and one Dufferin Anniversary, not in great shape either.
He was a very good snooker player in his day and can still hold his own against the young pups.
He hasn't had a cue for some time. I was going to put a maple shaft on the Trophy but was wondering if there is a place that has final sand or close to it ash shafts. The Quebec place has ash but its something that I would like to do to get it to him fairly quick.
I wasn't going to charge him anything for it as he isn't the richest guy around. I was getting bored and not much to do in the shop anyway. He is close to 80 and he delivers potatoes to make some extra money. Even at his age, he can pick up a 75 Lb burlap sack of taters. Pretty amazing.
Well, I could get off my butt and turn some squares but other than that, I like these fix em up projects.
Even if someone has an ash shaft thats laying around, I will buy it from you.
The duff has some nasty gouges near the butt, but a bit of epoxy with black powder should take care of that.
The Trophy will get the finish taken off and I will do an oil finish on it. And it needs a joint collar. I'll plug it and put a brass 18 in it.
Same with the Duff.
He had one unmatched shaft but it has a crack by the joint and looks to be Ramen wood anyway. Not worth the time to put a pin in it.
