Asia is on Barry's Radar Screen

Do you have an official source to back that statement?

In his BCA hall of Fame induction speech in 2013, Barry touched on how an event like Mosconi is a big TV/internet success, in part because of how Sky Sports views pool. He then lamented that when he had hoped to produce pool events in partnership with ESPN, his meetings with them were disheartening. He summed up by saying that, in his experience, American TV has little respect for pool, and that it's what blocks his entry into the production of pool events in America.

Matchroom's productions are phenomenal, and they have now created three big winners in the Mosconi, the World Cup of Pool and the World Pool Masters. Each of these events has grown over time and they attract the interest of pool fans worldwide.

In other words, you don't have any source. I thought you wouldn't, because it's simply not true. You'd be surprised if you could see the actual numbers, shocking stuff. By the way, do you happen to know what happened to this year's WCOP, since it's so successful as you say? Or why the World Pool Masters doesn't have a live coverage and it's just a filler to empty zones for Sky? And if pool under Matchroom's wing attracts such big audiences as you claim, why Sky, ITV and other British channels haven't shown any interest for more tournaments from Barry Hearn?

This is not new. I made a post last year during the Mosconi Cup (feel free to search it up), that I was privy to a conversation involving Barry essentially saying the clock is running out on the MC as is. In particular, US involvement with a nod to Asia. I think this year was the cementing of those ideas (although I have no new corroboration)

Exactly. Well informed post this one. Matchroom's events, as good as they may be, are all in RED. Hence why Hearn abandoned the greatest pool tournament of them all, the World Championship. The ratings simply cannot justify the production expenses. Matchroom keeps on losing money with all its 3 pool events. They're all-thankfully- side deals to other Matchroom's events like darts, snooker and boxing who really attract big enough audiences, but their time has already expired. Going East, might be the answer but I wouldn't count on that too.

You betcha I'll watch. Just imagine, Wu vs Deuel!!! Porn at its finest.

Well, guess my info is a few years out of date. I'll defer here.

I suspect next year's cup will be the last one. It may continue in some form but Barry won't keep throwing money at it indefinitely. Without a miracle on the ice type moment, that captures the public's imaginative, it's finished as a spectacle.

Viewing figures will be interesting. Minimal, i suspect, especially after day 2.

RIP Mosconi Cup. Hello Clash of the Contients!

A world team cup would be good, with perhaps 4 man teams instead of the current World Cup format.

I know many feel the Mosconi Cup is dead and maybe they are right...but its worth remembering that the US is still (I think) 12-11 up overall, people forget the US won 6 in a row near the start and no-one said it was dead then!

That's what I tool from his interview that unless USA raise their game and at least run it close then 2017 might be the last Mosconi.

However, looking at how many people were at the venue, I'm sure he will come up with something every December to keep the fans happy, would be a shame to can the whole concept.
