Ask Fast Larry Any Question

IMHO sandpaper is TOO ABRASIVE and removes too much wood from the shaft. Get Q SMOOTH MICRO BURNISHING PAPERS/FILM made especially for cue shafts. They remove much less wood that 600+ grit. Even the finest Q SMOOTH paper will burnish the shaft. Those papers work much better than sandpaper.

Several people are posting right now it's Ok to use 600 grit sandpaper on your shaft and it wont hurt the shaft, it that right.
Tell us what to use.

FL SINGS LIKE A CANARY AND TELLS IT LIKE IT IS.

That is really bad advice, badly out dated. We were doing that back in the early 60's when we did not know any better. I had a new Rambo then that came with two shafts, this is 61. One shaft for some reason I liked better than the other one so I just played with it only and the 2nd one sat in the cue case un used. When the shaft would get dirty and sticky, out would come my 600 sand paper to slick it down. After 5 years of doing that every day, that shaft became a pencil and was ruined and unusable, I tossed it in the fireplace. I then got real careful with my last shaft.

600 takes off wood, look at the paper, the eyes don't lie.
Today I just wipe off dirt with a very light warm damp wash cloth, then dry it with a towel at once. The dirt comes off, no wood does. I then slick the shaft with 1500, 3000 and 8000 grit 3m plastic papers, they are blue, brown and pink, I used to sell them. You can find the yellow which is 1000 and it takes almost no wood off. You can get the 2000 grit sandpaper at paint stores as well.

There are times you will get a ding and do have to sand, but you want to avoid that at all costs.

Damn son, your post went right on top of mine and we said the same damn thing, good going, you know.

This thread is on 15 pages, 7400 views, 210 replies, it's the mother of all threads. It began in November and it's running into February. It's time we put it to bed, it is turning into a pool encylopedia and is long past being a book. I already owned the world record for the longest internet post, now another world record, the longest thread of all time. That runs my world records now up to 52, to view them go under www.billiards-pool.net at the top open the tutorial section, there they are...And you can believe that, or not.
Let's say, Hasta La Vista Baby, to it.:D ;) :p

One minor correction if I may, you said:

These guys don't make them, 3m does and they are made for the computer industry, they are over kill in quality and expense for use in the pool world. A pool guy just discovered them by accident. :D

I'll need to checkout the local paint store for them. Plastic papers, as you said. I believe that ATLAS BILLIARDS SUPPLIES carries a similar product, an assorted pack costing around $30.

Why would the computer industry use those papers? What is their application therein?

Is this the paper that Varner uses? In Tampa he had a few different colored papers that he used on his shaft. My seat was arms length from his and he left the papers on the rail when he finished his game. But I don't know where they sell them.

Okay, you have 4 DVD's planned so far. Whe can I send you a check?

I believe they were first used to polish heads. The 3m product is sold in large rolls, that was the way I used to buy it and you just cut the pieces off of the roll. You can also buy it in 8x11 sheets, the pink 8000 grit only comes that way. Find a 3m distributor in your area and then see an outlet for it. These are the same papers Nick sells. :D

No sir, I have 25 planned, to cover every facet of the game. I will release one per month and will produce 6 in 6 months, if you guys like them and support the project, then I will keep making them. I'll do 6 more, over and over. You cant buy them now, I have only filmed one day, my 2nd day is at Atlanta Billiards tomorrow, I am filming draw stroke shots.

I really want these to be done right with the highest quality of production I can put in.
This is something I have wanted to do and dreamed of doing for ten years now. I know how to do it, what I want on it. Patience, when the first one is up for release, I will run banner ads on AZ, you wont miss it. Thanks for your support sight un seen, I swear I will not let you down. I frankly plan to blow your socks off. :D

Hurry up FL,

I'm an old guy and don't have too many tomorrow's left in me.

LOL

Jake

Tell me about it, I cant have too many clicks left on my clock as well. As if I did not have enough to do, they now have me promoting a hugh tournament coming up in the Far East. If it all goes down as I want it to, it will blow this trick shot magic thing out of the water that is now running on ESPN. I am putting together the mother of all pool rumbles and contests. When you see it, you will not believe it, the top 10 on earth get together to determine who is the big cahuna shooting the 40 hardest shots ever devised. Nothing like this has ever been attempted before. It is going to blow your socks off. :D

who are the trick shot stars?

Who are the Artistic trick shot stars?
Put your mouse on this link and press down the ctrl button on your keyboard and then left click your mouse:
http://geocities.com/rjmalm2001/wpaphotos.html

You will see the names of the stars in this new sport and game. Click a name and you see his picture come up. Put your mouse in the bottom right part of the image and a orange box appears, click it and now you can clearly read his bio information.

If you want to acquire the book and how to make the world championship shots they compete on open this link.

This is on CD and features flip art which is very cool. Also in one spot you have all of their web sites you can visit to learn more about each player.

hi Larry, for a player who likes MH and H tips, how do you like your Talisman tips? I bet you're using the H version, i'd probably take the H version too. They have M or H, but i don't know the hit of the M.

my intuition and from what i've read tells me the WB play better than the PRo's but thats only my intuition.
a guy here on AZ told me the talismans arent consistent but i find it hard to believe. the owner of talisman seems a cool guy with some heart to make his tips reliable.

edit: oups i see that you've been banned!
