Atlanta Danny // Danny Grier

For some weird reason, this guys name popped into my mind and I decided to search for it.

Somewhere around 1997 I was playing a decent sized 9 ball tournament in Stonewall, MS (Ricky Simpson's place). This guy walks in with his lady friend and signs up for the tournament. His name was "Atlanta Danny". I don't remember who won, but it wasn't him. Anyway, after the tournament was over he asked anyone if they wanted to throw coins up against the wall for $. A couple of folks took him up on it and lost some money. The pool room had a "divider" so to speak between the doorway and main playing area. It was about 3.5' tall and had 2" X 6" top on it. So the top flat surface was about 6" wide. He stood about 30' away and told everyone in the room to bet all they could stand that he could pitch a quarter and make it land on the 6" wide board. There was a good bit of $$$ put up. I don't remember the specifics but it was between $500 and $1000 I think. He backed off and pitched it. It landed flat at the edge of the board and skid about an inch stopping dead in it's tracks! It was one of the coolest tricks I have seen.

Anybody have any more stories or know if he is around?

A.K.A. Downhill Danny
I have a friend that knew him really well in the 80's and 90's.
They use to call him Downhill Danny because his car was standard and had to go downhill and pop the clutch to get it started! LOL!:)

......

its been years but i saw him take odds and pitch quarters into the vending machine slot. yes the coin slot! not sure how it turned out i was about 16 yrs old

seen plenty of gamble by him when he was in houston in the early 90s... he could really swing it and hand many props that worked out well for him.. i asked a buddy of mine a few months ago about danny and he said he thought he was in mississippi...but who knows...he and danny ran togther when he was in houston.... was allways lots of funny to watch...you knew when danny was there it was going to be a great night full of action....

The word around Dallas is that he back in the joint for trying to rob a bank with a water pistol.

Wow! That's crazy.

Tattoo, he was a funny dude. Your right, he had the whole place laughing while he took our money. It was worth it to see the show.:p

That is the story I got too. Too bad

Danny and the now deceased Johnny Morrow ran together for quite a while and one hell of a team.
The sory goes they were in Houston and Johnny over dosed on olnly God knows what.
The paramedics were called and he had stopped breathing. Htey got him back o life and to the hospital.
A few days later johnny showed up and pretty weak. The ambulance driver had told Johnny Danny had kept his bank roll, just to be safe.
now Johnny isout and want his BR.
"Danny, they said you took it" Jpohnny asks?
"No, No, Johnny, I SECURED IT!! Then you won't belive what happened." Danny said!
Everytime I hear his name I think of that one.
