And after it's coated with finish it looks like the finish has sand in it. Once it's sanded and coated a 2nd time it's okay though.jazznpool said:Have others noticed that the new Atlas black phenolic is not as black as it was previously? Worst of all it tears out easily when cut. I wonder if the stuff is being imported from China now?

Murray Tucker said:Not as black and it machines different. My problem is that I have about 30 butts hanging right now and some have the collars on them. I'll have to cut them off and change them so that the shafts will match.
Michael Webb said:Besides the shade difference, it definitely machines different and not for the better. It's more pitted.

That may be the place where I used to get all my phenolics. I think those are the same cities but a different name. I called the tel.# I used to have to contact the person whom I ordered my pheneoics from and the person answering said that the company had been bought out and she no longer worked there and that they were doing away with many of the products they used to make. The name he gave me of the new companies name and it wasn't this one however. He didn't know what they were doing away with nor the new prices of what they were going to carry. He told me that the he thought the new minumum was going to be 1,000.00 per item and a 2,000.00 minimum order. This may not be the case now. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what they have. The original mfg. I was getting it from took from 5 to 8 weeks to deliver an order as everything was manufactured to your specs. They made any size phenolics you wanted and their melamine ferrule material was great as was the double black. They used to be about 3.00 a foot cheaper than Atlas but I thought the quality of their materials was much better.candyman said:Here's where I bought my last batck of phenolics, I think there is a $50 minimum order.
