Although 99.9 percent of all cuemakers dont give 2 shits about other cuemakers cues, i was wandering if there was someone out there that might. I have a nick varner cue (chinies one). Its ok, and costed like $366 bucks, but it playes like garbage....it doesnt hit solid, and the shaft has a ton of flex...i was wandering if there was a cuemaker out there that might be willing to make me a cue (nothing fancy, just a solid cue) and trade it for mine.... Like i said, i know cuemakers normally dont do this kinda stuff, but im in desperate need of a solid cue! please think it over...

thanks for your time,
Justin

You start out saying that we Qmakers "don't give 2 shits about other cuemakers", & yet you want me to trade one of my good "solid hitting" Qs for your Q, that you admit is a piece of "garbage". Just what would I do with this piece of garbage? It's like saying "I have this piece of garbage bucket of bolts car, that I would like to trade even, for a good car. REALLY???? It seems that it is YOU who doesn't give "2 shits" about the cuemakers. YOU JUST WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING...JER

misunderstanding

Dear cuemaker,
I didnt mean anything disrespectful about cuemakes, i ment that most of them dont want another cue makers cue, b/c they are satisfied with theres. Im not looking for a giveaway, its just that the marine corps doesnt pay enough to support a family and still be able to afford a good cue. Im not looking for a 2000 dollar cue that someone will trade me for...lol. What i was asking was if there was any cuemakers, who might have been in my position before, that has a lower priced cue that they might trade me for. I know that alot of high end cuemakers still have sneeky petes and so forth for around the 250-350 range. Maybe something that they used for a while, and dont use anymore. I understand the hard work that goes into cuemaking, and didnt mean to sound like i was asking for a "give me". I hope that you understand now what i was trying to say. I guess i didnt word it to well. Best of luck to your business, and I wish you the best.

From your first post it sounds like you just don't like the hit of your cue - not anything really wrong with it. If that is the case then your best bet would be to sell it and use the $$ to buy what you want. Or maybe a dealer or retail store would consider a trade. I don't have have any outlet to sell another c/m cues and I think that is probably the case for most cuemakers.

Like some others have done in the past I'm sure, I'm still trying to get things setup to produce more Of My own cues on a more consistent basis, so I still deal in some production cues ocasionally along with the repair to league players to help support that, and some actually play fairly decent. Even with that said, I still could'nt give anyone a trade-in value that would be worth it to me and them. Like you mentioned & IMO they would be better off selling it personally, because they will get more bang for the buck that way.

I have indeed been in your position. I spent 3 years in the Army('60-'63), 2 of those years with a green beret on my head & a wife & 2 babies living off base, in North Carolina. So I do know the financial position, of a soldier with a family. Quit frankly, there are a lot of Q manufacturers, in that price range, that make a very good solid hitting Q. I would suggest that you hit with as many Qs as possible, before buying your next one. That way you will have one that plays good & solid, instead of one that just looks good. GOOD LUCK & if I had an entry level Q, that was anywhere near finished, we might make a deal...JER

Yo Justin,

This is Martin from the AZB room. Why not sell your cue, save a few ducats and buy one of my Ariel Carmeli sneaky petes. I have about 6 of the Dufferin butt cues in stock now and have 10 more petes made from old Valley Supremes coming within 2 weeks. The AC petes are a great cue for the dough, nice shafts and same specs as full custom.

hey everyone, thanks for responding to my post and being so helpful. I have tried selling my cue, but the issue at hand is that 1, its not one of the "top" name cues, so most people dont know about it, and 2, where i am, everyone knows a cue dealer somehow or another who can get them the same cue for like 225 bucks. I'd post on ebay, but thatll cost 12 bucks to post....lol. I guess i will try and be patient, and hope that someone on here, or someone i know might be interested in trading....one thing i learned last night is that you can play really good pool with a cheap q. I was using a house cue, and won a 9-ball tourny...although it was small and only paid 80 bucks, thats still food for myself and daughter until payday... I was thinking that when i get my taxes back, i should look at getting a new cue then while i have the money... B/C thats one good thing about the military; if your a single parent, you really get some money back...last year i got 5800 back...so i figure i can maybe get away with spending like 800 on a cue....Its all up to my ex-wife though, b/c she gets all my money anyways....lol Can u guys post some pics of cues u have in the 600-800 price range? id greatly appreciate it....thnx again everyone!

In that price range you can get a great playing cue. Now your problem is going to be narrowing down your search.

Best of luck,
Koop

If the money is that tight and you are expecting that big a return, I'd look to spend no more than about $400 for a really good sneaky pete or plain (no point) cue that really plays well, made by a reputable custom cuemaker. $600-800 sounds like a lot of money for someone on such a limited budget. I would think that the $200-400 difference would really help fill a financial gap elsewhere. Just my opinion from the outside not knowing your particular personal situation.

.

yeah ur probably right, but man it would be hard not to...b/c for 200-400 i dont know if i can get a cue that ill be happy with forever..but for 600-800 i could probably get one that i could stick with for a few years... but that is good sound advice. Its just a tough decesion

Hi Justin,
Mark hit on a good idea for your situation. Get a new shaft made for your due. Also you might consider having the joint redone. Just a new shaft alone may not help the hit.

Dave

Some good advice here but keep this in mind when you start to consider altering the butt,
Did you ever buy a second hand car and think you don't have to do anything to it,
and then you fix one thing, then another, and another,
THEN, you realize why it was probably sold to begin with,
A different cue sounds logical, Just a thought.
Different strokes for different folks.

Mike brought up a very good point...before you are done (getting a new shaft, joint work, etc) you may have put out more then it will cost to just get another cue with the hit that you are looking for....

Cliff

Hey Justin,

These guys are right on w/ the shaft idea, you can get a great shaft for under 200.00 or have a qmaker build you a shaft for a reasonable amount. You can find very nice hitting cues for under 400.00, most cue makers that due sneaky petes are going to give the same hit as their high end cues. As far as being happy w/ one cue the rest of your life, just from what I know of myself and others, you will find a cue you really like but there will be others you will want to try. Just in some of the cue makers I deal w/ Coker, Dayton, Shannon you can get a great hitting cue for 225-400.00.

Best of luck
Paul

Our soldier has a new, test hit only , 1999 Russ Espiritu w/2 shafts. Since he is just getting out of the Army and freshly back from Iraq and looking for a job, he has 3 years to pay for it. Whatever, whenever. That's our deal. He also got it wholesale from me. Here is a photo.
