First post in a long, long time (I make it a habit not to come here if I can), but this is the prologue post on Facebook with the link to the orange 5-/13-ball "patch" to the Aramith Black set:

An important correction to the above post, pointed out by @wigglybridge (Bob Mills), is that the "TV colors" scheme was more of a reaction to the poor color quality offered by NTSC color TV sets than black-and-white TVs. Even still, the pink solves a problem that now no longer exists. So why continue with this "solution," and at the same time create a new problem? Ah, read the product description for the "patch," and like I said, George Carlin himself would say you have to stand in awe.

For folks that don't know (likely most of you) Sean used to frequent this place. Told him I was gonna post here about the orange replacement balls, lol. I got to know him thru this forum. He and his lovely wife would vacation near my home, and we would get together to play a little pool, and he'd educate me some. A few years later, they moved near here, and now they play regularly at our pool room. All of which is VERY cool, and I met him via AZB. So very thankful for that!

I still have trouble distinguishing some balls in any colored set on TV. No one has invented a set yet that makes every single ball easily distinguishable on TV, at least to my eyes.

Heck, I sometimes get the purple 4 and 8 mixed up on my own table. I can tell a pink 4 easier in person. Problem is, I can't distinguish the pink 4 as easily on TV.

Maybe my new TV will correct that ...

The orange 5/13 ball pair really needs to be a 4 ball set with a purple 4/12 ball also so we can get back to predicting what shots the players will shoot. Even though I have watched countless matches with the purple 5 ball I still have to look at the bottom of the screen to see which color comes after the 3 when using that mutant set of Aramith Blacks.

I had a pad come loose in my polished causing the 9ball in a Centennial set to get fubared.
That was $35 to replace ten years ago iirc.

I think this orange pair has been out for a year now though.

You guys act like it’s the only set of balls to buy lol BUY SOMETHING ELSE. In today’s world you seem to have endless choices in balls to buy. If you like traditional buy traditional if you don’t then don’t ! I have non traditional and centennials. Depending on the mood I’m in. I assume if you bought this set originally that you liked the color changes and wanted something different. If you buy this maybe sometimes you like the classic colors sometimes you don’t and this is cheaper then buying a whole 2nd set of balls
I get the complaint watching it that it throws you off But if you went and bought this set and you don’t like the color of the balls your a moron and deserve what you get

I have to start by saying that I haven’t watched any MR broadcasts. I need a little more personality in my competitors than that. So what I am saying does not apply to MR.

I am the complete opposite of colorblind. It’s my only natural gift. I am the Efren Reyes of taking color perception tests. Yet I frequently have trouble identifying balls on most videos.

Next, I learned about a hundred years ago never to use the figure of irony in a pool room. You know, something like saying, “I think the new gray felt really adds a lot of life to pool. Makes it seem youthful,” when what you are actually meaning is that mushroom is a fungus.

So a couple of years ago I was a visitor in what counts as a real poolroom. It appears pretty regularly on The Great Southern Billiard Tour. Someone had produced a set of those black-ringed pool balls. There was an active discussion about their merits, pretty largely negative. I forgot my irony rule and said, “You guys don’t understand. The only thing holding pool back from being really big time is the color of the balls. We need to experiment, and, when we find just the right color and shade for each ball, pool will explode in popularity and professional pool players will make money like major league pitchers.”

Looks of disbelief all around.

Just a point to defend Aramith a little bit since I work with them and with the CEO… the purple 5 ball was a customer order, and wasn’t their idea.
