Attn: Mr. Wilson

Grady,
You are welcome to post anything you want to on here, controversial or not. That is what makes the forum turn, the fact that people can debate topics in the pool world. You have to understand that people will have differing views on different subjects and take that for what it is and not view it as anythig personal where you have to ignore them or discount their opinion as drivel.

I can't stand Charlie Williams and will be the first to call him out for all the things he's done to embarass the sport and himself, but the fact remains that it is his tour and his supporters and they are gonna run it exactly how they want.

Now, like I said, you are more than welcome to go on berating Charlie and this tourney, but why not try another approach since this one has obviously not worked in the 3 times you've tried it. IMO.

I thought this is the 4th year we have gone through this ...
I'm getting old !!! My memory is not what it use to be

Mr. Matthews,

I am one of the poster who have a different opinion than you. I don't believe my posts were nasty though. I feel the need to clarify/qualify my opinion:

Do I respect you - Absolutely! I believe what you have done for pool is nothing short of amazing and that you need to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. You've been one of my favorites for a long time.

Do I believe you should be invited to the World 14.1 Championship - Unfortunately I do not. Just like I don't believe some of politically motivated invites by Charlie Williams. To me, only the champions of the last 5 years (maybe last 10 years) should recieve an invite. ALL others should qualify.

Do I think Charlie Williams is bad for pool - I believe his action are appaulling. The whole room key incident and entering Marissa's room univited is borderline psychotic. The Sarah Rousey incident just confirmed my feelings for him. The issue is, how do we correct this problem? He's made all the political moves to get where he is and everybody will continue to participate in his tournaments. Even on this board, he is the only one allowed to post his tournamaent announcements in the main forum...

I hope this explains my position better. I do have the utmost respect for you.

Jim

Totally agree with the first two, have no knowledge of the third. I know nothing about Charlie Williams, can somebody point me in the direction of getting some information on this guy and why he's so bad for our sport? I'm a bit new to all of this but this guy sounds like a real lowlife

He's similar to Don King, but on a smaller level...and not as loud on the outside. Basically, he'll sell his own people out to put an extra dollar in his greedy little pocket. That help a little?

My head is in my hands...........Grady, there are more of us on your side than not. Please forget about the 14.1 thing - you already know it's pure politics and nothing else. No matter what the issue is though you have to remember that this IS a public forum where any one can bark and they don't have to back it up.

The truth is that we are truly powerless to help you. Dragon Promotions could care less what we think and has proven it by not engaging in conversations with us while at the same time relentlessly spamming the forum with ill-thought out so-called "press releases" and tournament flyers.

We can't withhold our attendance or money to influence them - they don't depend on the gate. The tournament is theirs at the moment until someone comes along and offers the WPA a better deal. That's the only way it's going to happen.

And even if that does happen there is no guarantee that a spot will be there for you. Why? It's because there is simply no ranking system for 14.1 players in North America due to the state of pool here. So someone would have to figure out who gets to play and how it will get done. That someone is quite likely not going to be figuring on giving the spots to the veterans unless they happen to be able to and have a deep appreciation for the history of the game.

As for the people on here my friend, they are going to be viscious. Now I asked for people to be respectful of luminaries such as yourself but if you choose to mix it up then be prepared because these guys play the keyboard as well as you have ever played pool and they have nothing to lose. Their reputation isn't on the light, yours is.

I implore you as a friend and fan to forget about Dragon Promotions and Charlie Williams. Most of us agree that they make quite questionable choices when they promote an event to put it mildly. But we have little to no influence on what they do.

As a friend and fan my advice is to not use this forum as a soapbox. We agree that the state of pool sucks - it's fractured and broken for the most part in America. However there are still a lot of good people trying to do good things in pool.

You have a lot to offer us as well as books and DVDs to sell. Please consider just hanging out with us and discussing pool. I guarantee you that this will translate into more sales, more lessons, more exhibitions, and a better life than attending events run by people you don't like who don't want you there to their detriment.

This is my plea to you as a friend and fan and student.

Sincerely,

John Barton

Hey there Grady:
I agree with this statement and beleive you have more to offer to pool with your knowledge and expertise. Keep up the good work and forget about the jerks.
Ron

Excellent post.

Grady,

They aren't picking at you, they just disagree....there is always going to be someone that disagrees with you....

As far as the spot/160 balls, people get on here and argue spots and games all day long until they are blue in the face, and 99% of those games never, ever come to reality....

There is no need for you to leave or get frustrated or apologize or any of that.....you posted a sincere position....some people agreed, some didn't....many posted valid points one way or the other.....at least you got some input from your supporters on why they think you should have gotten a slot....you also got some imput from other that gave their opinion on maybe why you didn't or shouldn't have gotten a spot...

It's just opinions.....it's highly likely that the majority of dissenters likely have a lot of respect for your history and knowledge - they just happen to disagree regarding the invitation...and truth be told, you kinda did come across as someone who posted an opinion on an open forum, yet didn't want to hear anything contrary to your own opinion....

It sounds like you are one of the pool elite....sounds like you have your own room, you do great things for the game, and lead a damn good life.....so people disagree, so what....people disagree all the time.....let it go.....no need to make a big exit or hail the Wilson.....if ya need, take a break, think it over, and then come back.....there are always a ton of great topics here and probably plenty of people that would love to have some insight from you on those posts...

Good luck, I truly hope you can just take the input for what it is and be happy with all the great things you have......I didn't get the impression people wanted to insult you, they just don't agree....

Can't rep you any more. Gotta "Spread it". I don't even like to use that phrase.

Of course everybody is entitled to their opinion. Any poster who cannot see from the evidence I have presented that Charlie Williams is awful for our sport, I just don't think I could ever be your friend.

All I want to know is: did you vote for Obama? Then I will decide if you are my friend or not. Tongue-in-cheek.

I gave you red as this is just so wrong.
mrs.g

I left them negative rep also. The lack of respect gives one an idea on the age range of this person. A lot of us on here are old enough to look back and wonder how on earth the last 20+ yrs went by in the blink of an eye. This young "man" (brat) will one day look in the mirror and see an old man. He's going to realize that no one can stop time and aging is a cycle of life. At this point all he can do is hope that there are a few less ignorant, disrespectful brats in the world when he gets old.

How can you leave someone negative rep for a post you yourself admitted you don tunderstand?

Rg
ps, I didn't either, btw.....

The part that was written and understandable warranted negative rep. Whatever this kid meant by the initials certainly couldn't be anything positive since it followed something so rude and ignorant.
