The Kamui website referred me to Midwest Bicycle and Billiards in Waukegan, IL for authorized Kamui tip installation. Does anybody here have any experience with them? thanks.

anyone that can install a tip can install a kamui. nothing really special about it (installation wise that is)

kamui

point taken...so do you have any experience with this installer?

All any repairman has to do to become kamui installer is e mail his picture standing next to a lathe to John Bertone the USA Kamui rep.

And wham bam thank you man you are now a official Kamui dealer and authorized kamui installer....

Unless policy has changed, John requires a video to be sent in. I have the email to verify him saying video. So either policy has changed(which I doubt) or you're providing misinformation again.

It was just a picture of me and one of my lathes ................................
I would remember and your not John B

You assumed and at least you are wrong about his policy when I signed up.

But you know what happens when you assume and your wrong.
You just make a fool out of yourself .

Call John up and find out for sure before you say I am wrong......

Mike is correct. They only require picture. I still have the e-mail from John. Same policy that G2 has

HI Lewis,
Then if you guys are doing the installations. Could you send me a video of you doing an installation. Preferably a Kamui installation.
Best regards,
John

So like I said, his policy must have changed.

Hi,

Thank you for your email. We want to do business with you. But first we will need a photo of YOU in your shop with YOUR lathe. As you might know we do not sell to players. So, we need to qualify you as a cue maker and/or as a repair shop.

Thank you for working with us,

Regards,

Your lathe. I guess pictures weren't enough to show that's your lathe is why he now requires proof that you know how to work on a lathe with a video.

You guys sound like my bickering kids. Im sick that I read this crap. It's a tip. My 6 year old probably could do it.

I don't know what the problem is.
I have enough lathes that me and you couldn't keep them all operating at the same time.
If you don't like the fact that I only had to send pictures to John of me standing by one of my lathes or that I am a authorized kamui tip installer then take it up with John.

Why are you busting my chops when all I did is do what I was told to do by John Bertone to become a authorized dealer ?

You might want to check your rep too. He gave me a red rep yesterday

for what reason I don't know. Must be the wrong time of the month for

him or her. I can tell this person has got to be young 'cause he/she is

certainly childish. Even more than me................

And yeah...I just needed a picture of my lathe and tooling.

I spoke with the installer in question and he informed me that he does not use a lathe for the installation, so I'm not sure what the actual Kamui policy is or isn't.

Having said that, people have posted on this thread as to how simple and trivial it is to install a good tip. I must disagree. I have personally seen both good and bad tip installs. And the last thing I want is to spend $30-$40 on a tip install only to be dissatisfied.

If he doesn't use a lathe you might want to keep looking but it shouldn't be too tough to find a guy in your area who can install a tip properly.

Go to your local "players" pool hall. Find the better players. Ask them who does their tips, and look at their cues.

Sometimes the pool hall will offer their own tip service. But you want to ask the players because the pool halls cue repair service may not be as good (or even close) as the guy the good players go to.

you live in chicago
call red shoes or chris's and ask who they would recommend for a new tip instalation
there has to be many qualified people in chicago
personally i wouldnt get a new tip put on by someone who didnt use a lathe
