Ventilation?

Well I have a charcoal mask, and I have a small utility type room I spray in that has 2 doors inline with each other so it ventilates somewhat, still not perfect I suppose, but I have sprayed the Lacquer in there, and the fumes clear out fairly easily if I run some air through the doors. I also get out of the room soon after making a series of cotes. I guess the quicker it flashes the quicker I can get done and get out. I could lay it on pretty good with the lacquer, and not run into trouble, but until I try the new stuff I won't know what routine I will use, if i can use the same methods or not. I will definatly have to work it out to limit My time in there, each time I spray.

dam housing market still has me stuck here right now, but when I get into the new place I will be setting up a room dedicated to spraying, and a dirty room for turning seperate from the repair and build room. I'm definatly tired of getting sick.:(

Not good, Auto finish can give you serious problems, how about some sought of exhaust and run it into a drum of water 1/2 fill, anything would help. We work with enough things that are toxic, why add to it if you can help it. If your not ready for a proper set up see if the local auto body shop can help and blow the finish on for you, (Headaches, Paralysis, DEATH) Do you work at home? (Family)

I have similar issues Cue Crazy. I don't have room until I sell this house to have a dedicated room for spraying. I'm somewhat fortunate in that my basement walks out to the back yard and I am still under the 3 season porch and there is a deck in front of that, so I am basically still inside but plenty of air moving through. I have to to through 2 doors in my basement to get outside. I do all my spraying there (I even mix the finish out there. Just opening the cans in the basement will be enough that I can smell it upstairs in the house). I can spray a coat, come back in through the 2 doors, take off my mask and not smell a thing. That said, I will not spray any finish if my wife and baby are at home and I also make sure to put the dog outside.

I'm still trying to come up with a solution as it gets colder here, but you don't have that problem. I'm thinking of building some sort of heated box, but who knows if I"ll ever get to it. I bought everything I need to build a booth to spin the cues and all the parts are still sitting in the unopened boxes just as UPS delivered them. I really only have one cue at a time ready for finish, so I just hang it up and spray away.

Yes I'm aware of these things Mike, Thanks for the concern though:) . The room I spray in is seperate from the house. I could easily remove it, so I was thinking about doing a exaust the way you mentioned with the barrel outside, and take it with me when I leave. I believe it came up in conversation here a long time back. You need an explosive proof motor for a fan though right? I was checking them out on a surpluss site not too long ago. Do you know what CFM range I should be looking for?
Right now I don't shoot alot of cues on a regular basis, maybe a hand full a year. I will step things up, but for now I am still in no hurry to move alot of cues.

You think a HVLP is bad, I was around a couple of body shops in the day that all they used were large window and standup floor fans for ventilation. My grandfather once owned a body shop up somewhere near where alanta motor speedway is now, but that was before My time. I still have some of his spray guns, but they are outdated. I have a new, small, HVLP cup/jam type gun I am gonna try for this at first, and if it doesn't work too well, I'll just buy a good quality gravity fed.

What about the water based paints that are supposed to be so good and used on BMW's or some make similar. Anyone know If they make a clear cote that is any good? I was watching a show earlier in the year that they were raving over the stuff on, and they were saying it's getting reall good, and that eventually most people would be going to it. any truth to that or just hype. Think the EPA force people into It eventually?

Yeah that sounds alot like the area I'm using there is an open over hang in front of the door leading into it, so I hang It in that doorway just inside. It's still plenty ventilated, but I don't have sand or dust blowing into it either. Like you I never spray when anyone else is home but me.

Wow something Wild just happened, I was sitting here heard a bunch of noise outside, walked out to investigate and some kids just ran their car into the canal in front of our house. I've seen many cars go in where they did, but it was high tide and this is the first one that I have seen go so far in that it almost touched the other bank. The car was completely under water with the hazzards on. Salt water to make things worse. The car is toast. Everyone got out of the car safely atleast, but a couple of them fled the scene, and the owner stayed there.

What were they thinking

A Brand new BMW, bought in september & turned to junk instantly:eek: . Here's some pictures of tonights excitement here on the block that interupted me earlier:D Enjoy:) Didn't get any while it was still under water though. sorry guys:o

Hey Guys. Check your respirators, Alot of them are to be stored in the foil bag they come with whenever not being used. Also the 3m respirators are only to be used for 8 hours of spraying time (time out of the bag) and then the filters should be changed. I got this info direct from our 3m rep at my work. He stated the filters will still usally flow easily but the carbon gets weak/saturated so you will be inhaling the evaporative chemicals in the paint. I now change mine fairly often. I bought 9 off of ebay for something like $70 delivered. I don't even mess with the replacement filters, I just grab a new respirator when I need it. Chris.

Fresh Air Respirator

This is what I use when spraying cues, I do use the full head unit which covers the full head. http://clmcenterprises.com/hobbyair...6-P-AyDQn7QO&gclid=COacxpf_wI8CFRsIWAodFiYCYQ After long research with Auto Clear Coats and UV finishes, I did find out you absolutely do not want to get any of these absorbed in your eyes. The UV clear will blind you due to the over spray settling on your eyes, and then the UV lighting hardening it over time.

As far as Clear Coats, I would recommend a spot clear finish, it dries fast, and typically are hard. I used Napa off brand and thought it was better than Dupont for buffing and hardness. I believe the hardest is not always the best finish, due to it being brittle when applied to a surface.

I hear guys talk on here about UV finish not working, and some are using it until the last coat, and then spraying over it with Auto Clear. This in my opinion defeats the purpose of UV Clear coat. I worked 6 months with a company, and developed a UV system that will work on cues. Non-Yellowing, Great adhesion, and buffs better than any auto clear on the market. If you are not using UV clear, and it is because it will not buff, then we need to talk. My Uv Finish will buff, it will stick, and it will come out beautiful if you follow the steps I provide. I did not want to make this a sales call, but I hate to hear that cue makers have a UV system, and they cannot use it because the clear will not buff or stick. The finishes out there for sale by themselves, with my experiences will not stick to a cue, and will not buff. There are cue makers that use the popular Van Tech, and Axon, but by themselves you will beat yourself up to get it to work. If you want to talk about it PM me, I probably can shed some light on the situation. Not selling, just trying to help!

where do you guys buy auto finish online?

cant find it locally. looking dupont chromoclear. what number are you guys spraying and where to but online? i asked everywhere and cant find a local source

Dave, if you have a finishmaster in your area, they carry it. There's one walking distance from my house, so that's where I used to get mine.

I'd have to go downstairs to look at the cans, but I think it's something like 7600S if I remember correctly.

When I went down to get Mine, I think They said the 7600 # was longer available. The # They gave Me was HC-7776S. It's ChromaClear Multi-Mix Snap Dry Clearcoat according to the can, and is a 4:1 Mix. The activator #'s depend on what temps You want to use.
