AZ Billiards Cuemakers

I just wonder why the cuemakers in this forum do not post their contact information in their post or in their public profile?

Sometimes I want to get in contact with one of you and find it difficult.

If you are going to reply to the Ask the Cuemaker questions I think you should provide contact information. Just my opinion.

I AGREE...JER

Personally, I do not want or need to advertise. If someone wants to get ahold of me, they can use the forum. Private messages are quite easy to send as well.
Simply click on the person's username at the top of their post, and select: "Send a private message to <username>".

If I felt the need I guess I would, but For Me, I don't consider Myself a fulltime maker anyway, altough I guess I sort of am on the repair side. For me making cues Is mainly a hobby I enjoy, am still working at, and like sheldon, I don't feel the need to advertise, I have enough people wanting cues that I would not have to do that for quite some time.
Another thing to consider is the spam you might receive.
If anyone felt the need to contact me, I could easily be reached by PM, and would be more then willing to give My contact info for legit purposes or email conversations. There are plenty of people that have it and could verify that.
I have to admitt though I do prefer emails over phone calls, because it's much easier to budget my time efectively. I have enough phones calls now to deal with, and hard to muti task with that added into the mix. Greg C

I prefer all the AZ cuemakers have their names... instead of nicknames so all of us know we're speakin to a fello cuemaker

I think Hadj is saying he would prefer posters who are established cuemakers to not post anonymously, but use their real name.... I think...

:D :D :D

Mike, what I meant was I've noticed there are cuemaker posters here that aren't easily recognizable by their username(nickname) or avatar... usernames(nicknames) like Blud or Bandido are an exception since they are already known for that monicker in the forums and can easily be identified thru the avatars.

JMO... kinda puzzling when you see a username that appears like G-code or something:D

If you don't want or need to advertise why do you have a such a nice web site: http://www.sheldoncue.com/.

I don't see what the big deal is about a username. Many of the forum members make cues but don't have a need or desire to advertise. Some do it for a living, some do it for the enjoyment. I have a web site as well, but I don't feel a need to broadcast it here. I let the search engines take care of that. Ya know what I mean? ;) I don't visit this forum for the sales, I visit because I enjoy the reading & learning (even though I am an "old dog").

When I read someones opinion, about Qmaking or some repair technique, I'm interested. But, without a name or even what part of the country the poster is from, I don't know how much credibility to put on the post. I'm still learning every day, from Qmakers young & old & those who just tinker. When a topic comes up that interests me I sometimes wonder if the unidentified poster is offering an OPINION or has actually performed a proceedure. If I knew more background about the poster, I could better judge the validity of the content...JER

happy where I am at businesswise

Arnot,

I am not inclined to advertise as a cue maker at this point. My name and business name are easy enough to figure out for the people that know me or deal with me.

ShootingArts is my business name and hu is a shortening of my first name that I have used for 35 years. These are the names I use on any forum on the net and hu is my signature and the name I use in every poolhall. Hu is my first choice of a handle since it requires less typing. If two letters aren't acceptable or "hu" is already in use I use shootingarts. The only exception I can think of is e-bay where I am known as hu92.

I don't use forums to hustle business and I don't care if people know who I am or not. All they need to know is that I am the same guy every time I post. Some people use a different name on every forum or post on a single forum under many different handles.

I will be sending my information to add to your list of cuemakers when I feel I can turn out cues in a volume and timeframe that justifies the addition. Meantime I am content to stay busy in my little corner of the world.

What I asked had nothing to do with advertising. It is just that it would be helpful to those who frequent this forum to know of a contributor's qualifications. I don't know who you are so I am at a disadvantage. How many of you will call someone on the phone or write a letter and NOT identify yourself in the conversation. That would be rude and if it happened here I would not hestiate to ask for your name.

Common decency dictates that the first thing you do when talking or writing is to make sure the receiver of the communication knows who you are.

Maybe it is just that if everyone knows who is doing the talking you would be more careful about what you say?

Just my opinion :).

Names

Arnot,

I am hu on the net, I am hu at the national events I attend and at the international events I visit. People who know me from the Net always find that they meet the same person that they knew on the net. I don't have to hide and indeed don't. When folks take cheap shots I tell them just that.

"Maybe it is just that if everyone knows who is doing the talking you would be more careful about what you say?"

For example your claim I quoted above is bullshit. If we meet in person I will still tell you it is bullshit. If you check your old e-mails and find my last name which I included in my signature what you said will still be bullshit. Is that plain enough?

You have or had my full name, included in an e-mail I sent you. You still don't know any more about me and my qualifications to answer questions than I included in that e-mail.

Hu

 , you know who I am, My background, where I live, and how to get ahold of me if you need to. You probably know more about me then I know about You. I even Have My picture up, and I'm not a very purdy fella :D I don't see many others with their Mug up on here. Btw One of My user Id's on other forums is Gforce, what's wrong with that fella;) :D

If someone tells me how to change My user ID, I would gladly put My name Up in place of it, but I really am not interested in being put on any list if that's what this is really about.

I do not run an open shop here yet, and can not handle the flow of people that want to come by all the time, so that is another factor. When I am ready for such, I will make My doors open.

As far as accountability, well I'm not sure It's the same thing, but I try to use phrases like it's My understanding, IMO, I'm not an expert in this area, this is hearsay, or what have you when I'm not sure about a paticular subject. as far as My qualifications and how Long I've been at It, I believe I have stated that on here plenty of times. I have nothing to hide. My customers are happy with My work, and that's all I really care about. I'm not out to win any popularity contest, altough I do apprietiate all the good advice I have been given, so I try to pass the torch from time to time, when the same ol same ol questions come up.
Personally I don't want to run off the lesser known people here, because some of the info they leave is just as valuble as the better known makers. I've received good and bad info from both established and non established, so I make the final judgment for Myself based on what I know to be fact. I try to think for Myself alittle bit atleast:p . I've received good info at one time or another, from just about everyone that posts here on a regular basis, so I feel everyone has something to contribute, and if they don't want to share their info, I feel that is their right in an open forum. This is just My opinion.

Peace
Sincerly;) GC Colbert
