Interesting handle. Is that freeform lamination or inlayed? Chris Kurzwiel does some similar looking freeform laminations with veneers.

The great thing is the respect, artistry, craftmanship, and time that is put into all these cues. I see something beautifully refined that is made from raw beauty.

Here is a pict of my current playing cue. Its South African Blackwood and Tulip Wood, with some reconstituted Turquoise rings. It has a maple shaft.

It's one of my less fancy cues, although I really wanted to do justice to the beautiful piece of Tulip wood I came across.

This cue weighs in at 21 7/8 oz, and its my favourite playing cue of all time. It has no weight bolt. It hits like a thunderclap, with no effort at all.

While when I was way young, I played with a 22 oz Helmstetter, the hit and balance cannot be compared. The Helmstetter was heavily weighted with a huge bolt, and had a thin and whippy shaft.

Considering I have played with a huge number of cues, from a 16 0z snooker cue, to the 22 oz Helmstetter, I found it funny to get so attached to this cue.....but thats the way it is.

Cheers - Dave.

This cue is really more my scene. It's my current Work in Progress.

It's built from Peruvian Walnut, She-Oak (Probably what you guys know as Lacewood) and BEM.

I have made a shaft for playing with the smaller balls (Snooket etc) with a brass ferrule and a more typical pool style shaft.

I still have to put the finish on this cue, it just has a bit of glue on it for protection at the moment.

Cheers - Dave.

This is a few of my latest cues. The one with the brown lizard wrap has that sweet classic look. I am most proud of that one. The points came out real nice.

I also do wood working and that is a cutting board made for my mother. I used purple heart, walnut, and maple.

Sorry for the pic, it is only iphone quality......

Here's a couple of pics of my first and latest cues. The first cue is ebony forearm/butt with a curly maple handle. That was the first cue that I succesfully completed. There were about 10 before that cue but always had some kind of problem with them, either a chip in the ringwork or problems with them not being straight or whatnot. The first 10 were complete train wrecks and either being cut for joint protectors or thay went to the fire wood pile. Burning Cocobolo makes your house smell nice! The second cue just came off of the lathe yesterday and it's my newest personal player. Coco forearm with a african blackwood butt. Goncalo alves under the wrap. Came in at 19.4 with no weight bolt and has a great forward balance. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Hi,

Im building an ebony player with a thuya handle and simple ringwork for me.
It will get a southwest pin 3/8x10 and a nice hard shaft.
This is one of my first attempts to build a nice Player for me.

I am restarting to work on cues again

I have been building cues since 1989 then I took a break since the retailer that was carrying my cues no longer had the personnel to sell handmade cues from their store then after some prodding from my friend Russ aka"poolhustler" here on AZ to restart and teach him and help me build cues again. Here is a Snakewood / Ivorywood cue I recently finished for my friend and a couple of cues that I sold in 1995 that the retailer gave me the photo's that he had taken.

Tulipwood Ebony

I am hoping my restart will give me the same enjoyment I once had when turning a nice piece of wood into functional art.

Hightower Celtic Knot Work Cue

Here is an African Wenge Hightower Custom cue
with over 750 inlays in the butt. The inlays make
an intricate twelve point Celtic knot work design.
The center piece is a silver Celtic knot design wrapped
around ivory and abalone diamonds, with ivory Celtic ring
work on each end. Then there are twelve ivory Celtic knot
points going out, six in each direction. The points are
surrounded with hundreds of silver inlays. The joint
and butt plate are ivory also.

A Hightower Tiger Maple cue with Purple Heart
handle. This cue has extensive butterfly work in it.
The butterflies literally cross over each other in
multiple layers in the forearm and butt sleeve.
The veneer colors are purple and red.
