Going into December, the numbers seem kind of low. If I can recall correctly, Shane and Shaw broke into the six figures in recent years.

Is it because there are more variety of winners, or less paydays?

First thing I thought also, looking at it earlier.
Fewer stops or smaller rewards?

Now deduct expenses and taxes and tell me its worth it turning pro.

I know pool gets a lot of grief here, but I'm going to go a bit soft here and say I really do feel for these guys on the list.
Personally, I very much understand how difficult this game is, and to play at their level the amount of hours of invested by each of them is that of a master craftsman. If anyone else invested 10 thousand hours into a trade, by that time you can make a pretty good living.
I know, I know, they all knew what they were getting into when they started, but that still doesn't make me express sympathy, when I see family men like Jayson shaw playing for diaper money...or overhearing Johnny Archer talk to his kid about the little League game he missed because he is on the road at a tournament....
I also feel, that we as a collective pool community, enjoy all the fruits of these players' labor, as we huddle around live streams, or rail bird money matches, and pick apart Mosconi Cup performances....if these guys weren't out there making this work, we wouldn't enjoy pool half as much as we do.

There are a ton of speculating threads on why pool is where it is...or how to save it..and on and on.

Right now, I saw this list and I felt for these guys. Many of us know so well the financial pressures of life, and especially when that life is with a family.

The list may be a collective representation of the greatest pool playing talent that's ever touched a pool cue, and not a one can reach six figures in 2018 dollars.

If you want it put into perspective, I'm somewhere between double 1st and 2nd place money plus per diem. I live the entire year on the road and if I make a SINGLE MISTAKE I'm out of a job, yep, you read that right, one single mistake gets me fired!

I have a few different titles, and my pay rate varies. I and others I work for would put me into the very top of my profession skill wise, meaning, I am as good at my job as Shane and Dennis are, yet if I make a single mistake I'm out of a job. You cant put that kind of pressure on somebody and expect them to feel sorry for other people who can make mistakes all day long and still thrive.

I didnt even realize any of this and my place in all of it until I started posting. I show up every day after day after day and just do it right every time, when the whole world gets mulligan after mulligan.

I do not believe that all monies are reported or calculated on Az Money Leaderboard. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say there's a 20 to 25 percent swing.

Also, challenge matches, calcuttas, and other things also put money in the players' pockets.

That said, I can count on one hand the players who may be fortunate enough to earn six figures before expenses. I don't believe anyone earns six figures after expenses in the professional pool world.

Tournament promoters, tournament directors, referees, and tour directors earn more money than pool players, mainly because of how expensive it is to compete professionally in a year-round basis.

I am curious, now that this thread is been brought up, how much the WPA (World Pool Billiard Association) staff earn each year, with travel expenses paid by sanctioning fees.

I do wonder if that is published anywhere. In the Federal Government of the United States, all salaries are published and available for public consumption.

The owners of the teams always make more than the players(or lose everything) - they take all the risk. I wish the players and promoters made millions.

Merry Christmas JAM

AZ Money Leaderboard is inaccurate, even if you just count tournament winnings.
It covers some US tournaments, but all winnings outside the US have a 50/50 chance to get counted for the rankings.
