So, I came across this and almost instantly my love for pool kicked in and thought i'd at least run it by the guys (and gals) and keep my fingers crossed. This device obviously has an alternate purpose but we can use it maybe to our advantage.
So here is what i'm proposing, we all get it, place it somewhere in our case even if it's to have it surgically implanted and just like registering your cue with a manufacture and such we as a whole can become a huge network of intel for each other. Granted it doesn't help with your cue specifically but it's a step to help prevent maybe even recover some of your stuff and not have it be a total loss while you're sweating some action at SBE, RENO, BCA, etc.

nice thought but if I understood what they said in their video correctly, that if your lost item comes within 100 feet of any of our tens of thousands of other tracker users then you will get a gps update on where your item is, that would be a really long shot.

First, I would question whether they actually even have "tens of thousands of other" customers but even if they did, what would be the chances of one of them coming within 100' of your lost item.

I think it would be a good product to help find misplaced phones, keys etc that are pretty close range. But if a cue case goes missing, once it goes outside of the range (100 feet?), then good luck with that.

Also, if it is clipped on in plain sight to something that gets stolen, probably the thief will toss the tracker. If cleverly hidden in the case, maybe that hurts the signal?

There may be better options avail.

I have considered the option for sometime, however I have opted not to rely on GPS or chip technology to give me a false sense of security.

I keep my case close to me, within sight or quick 'friend watch' and do not leave my cues laying around. I am very surprised at how carefree and trusting some are with their flashy 3k cues only to be surprised when they get 'pinched'.

No matter where you play outside your home allot of bad guy, scumbag, thieving addict opportunists out there looking to score a quick 'dime bag' for your cue.

On a side note, any success stories of members recovering their cue(s) with a chip or gps fob here ?

That is good solid advice if you want to keep possession of your cues. I dont even have a $3K cue and I watch it like a hawk. If I was nefarious I could have a huge collection of cues.
 
Ok first off, no one take anything i say out of context or personal.
Now, I feel that some of you are taking this idea here a bit off the tangent. See chicken you mention their tens of thousands which they don't have or maybe that globally, Dave said he keeps his stuff close and fastone agrees.
That's not the point, see Chicken "we" are the tens of thousands, "we" are the one who rely on each other for the help, Dace and Fastone not because you keep your stuff close means that others don't lose their stuff.
Let me explain, if 65% of the player at the Expo or BCA have this device hell 50% then the moment some goes "hey where's my case" the community comes together, that same community that we lean too here for shot advice, stroke advice, cue maintenance, cue ideas, practice or fundamentals advice, that same community that we post a picture of our cue or describe a friends when that gets stolen will now be at hand to quickly and possibly recover soooome portion of that and not making it a total loss.
Just like that line from Unthinkable "If there's a 1% chance of the threat being real we have to take it seriously" then I say "If there's a 1% chance of you or another person getting back that chalk holder that their wife or child got them, maybe a pool towel, or maybe their car keys was in that case isn't THAT worth the chance?".
We The People people, we are the one who have to look out for our fellow man in this sport that's like a speak easy on the grand scheme of things. For a $30 purchase (maybe we can even find something on Mass Drop to really being the price down) we can become more than just a screen name in a room full of strangers when we come together at an even, that same person who you would of never spoken too much less meet (just because of circumstances) can now be the person to say "Hey, i'm in the elevator right now and the app says i'm 3 feet aways from your stuff" can be your ally.

So ok maybe it's not "this" device but this is surly a grand idea IMO and deserves some extra thought. Let's not just be the biggest pool community online on a website let's be that out in the real world too

Its a nice thought but if someone is not going to pay attention to their own property how can you honestly expect them to look out for someone else s property? If I walk away from my things I may ask someone I am shooting with to keep an eye out for my things but when going to a big tournament many times even though you know people there you are not spending a lot of time socializing with them. You both have matches to get to and things to do in the short time between matches.

See I don't feel that the success of this should be based on the few careless guys, i'm willing to bet that the people who i've seen post here about a lost/stolen cue were just a victim of circumstance and not careless people.
The big picture here is the people who care about another man loosing his stuff to a low life and banding together is the only way to combat that, see in the years to come when geo tagging becomes mainstream and chips get placed in cue it would depend on the community to gel locate the lost or stolen item.
I guess it's back to crabs in a barrel until a pro or someone else comes up with the idea and then everyone will go "oh wow that's such a great idea, look at what DA, JA, SVB etc came up with"


and so pool continues to struggle

7forlife, I think the naysayers are clueless as to how this system actually works. I think it is a great technology in its infancy and will continue to improve over time. Go ahead and buy it. You can be the only pool player in the world with this device and it will work just fine for you. The system does NOT rely on the goodwill of others to report something about knowing anything about your missing stuff. All it would need is an app on everyone's phone (everyone who has the device of course) and it will ask permission to use the GPS feature of the phone. Go to 1:20 of the video....the girl walking by the lost purse is oblivious to the fact that there is a lost purse sitting there. But the app on her phone (without intervention from her) reports the location where the signal was picked up and you (the person with the lost item) gets the signal of the location of the lost item (at least the location of the phone that is within 100 ft. of your item) so you know what pool hall to go to to beat the hell out of the guy who took it. So if your item is on the move (on the way to the next pool hall), the system will update you as the item passes within 100 ft of device users who simply gave app permission.

It's actually a great idea and you don't need anyone's advice or permission on AZB to use it. I would just suggest you make the little button thingy as inconspicuous as possible.....send it to John Barton when he makes you a case so he can sew it into the lining. Or if it is small enough, send it to your custom cue maker and he can engrave it into the butt like a medallion and lacquer over it.

Thank you so much for seeing the possibilities of this device for us in the pool community. Like I said maybe not this device but the idea is solid so why not come together and help out a fellow player.
I though out having it placed in a cue but permanent is not the best as it will need to be charged, I would love to get it but unfortunately the company does not have a lot of user "at this time" so that's why I though "we" could become that community.

What you need to do is train a peacock that just sits there watching your cues every move. Is always quiet when you touch it and goes off air when some one else does. Lots of peacocks here they are aggravating and make good alerters
