I received an e-mail from the management here at AZB alerting me to the fact that this morning my account was being hacked by someone trying to sign into my account.

Do they want to steal my avatar? Are they attempting to make posts in my name?

What do you all think is up with this? .. Here is the e-mail I received from AZB...

Dear Agent 99,

Someone has tried to log into your account on AzBilliards.com with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 199.127.226.150

All the best,
AzBilliards.com

I believe it was Agent 86....
...uh, hang on, the other shoe is ringing.....

Well, they are from Portland - probably the same person that is throwing dildos over all the power lines there. Weirdos :D

The Project Honey Pot system has detected behavior from the IP address consistent with that of a comment spammer.

I can show what they were going to spam with your username but I fear getting in trouble if I do lol.

I got the same message too??

In all seriousness, it is good that they warned you. Most people use the same password for multiple accounts. If a hacker can figure out one password, then they will try to use it on other accounts associated with your computer. Hackers probably think something like azb would be a good place to start because you are less likely to notice. ie no personal information

It seems strange that azb would only block them from trying to log in for a period of 15 minutes though.

Maybe they were trying to see if after enough attempts if the system would automatically lock your account and therefore you wouldn't be able to post any longer.

It was me, I was going to log in as you to tell me how great of a pool player I am. Then I was going to do the same with many other accounts, I wanted to get like at least 4 pages telling everyone on AZB that I am tops when it comes to shooting pool. Crap, my plan was foiled again.

I am sure if you change your avatar to this you will not be harassed

That email was an automatic notice that the forums send out.

We have been seeing a LOT of this sort of thing over the last month or so. In order to try to combat this, we installed a security add on that automatically bans any IP that enters the wrong password a specific number of times.

I couldn't really tell you why they are trying to hack in though.

To many members looking at adult content without going incognito? :)

It's happening on a lot of forums right now along with facebook. Just spam bots trying to get accounts to use.

Edit: The reason they want multiple accounts is because every time they can get their website mentioned it raises them for google search responses.
