When I was working at a college years ago, we began giving a yearly award to the outstanding staff member. Faculty members already had an award they could win (Teacher of the Year), but the staff had no award to recognize outstanding service. Anyway, the year the award was begun, the odds on favorite to win the award was a woman named Mary Schwab. She died, unexpectedly, before the year was over and we had to decide whether to give the award posthumously (after death, for those not familiar with that word). We finally decided that rather than GIVE the award to Mary posthumously, we would NAME the award after her. So from then on, it became the Mary Schwab Employee Service award and has been given annually ever since. I didn't know Tom Ferry personally, only through his posts on this forum, but it is obvious to me that he was a very valued AZ person and that he is definitely missed around here. I really like the idea of honoring him by naming an award after him; the Tom Ferry - OHB - AZ B'er of the Year. The name of the award would be kind of an "inside" thing, but that's kind of neat as well. I would suggest one or two further thoughts - have someone in charge of soliciting votes for this yearly award. Timberly? Eydie? Purdman? Koop? Mr. Wilson? And secondly, put up a sticky that gives the criteria for winning the award. Maybe there would be something in the criteria about a minimum number of posts during that year and rep points. What do you think?
