Azbilliards' Person Of The Year

Tom Ferry - OHB

I would dedicate this entire year to him. Always had GREAT stories and made me laugh consistently.
Think: Rhino foreskin tips.

Hey Koop, I've been in search of those tips since the day he recommended them. Best I've found is actually live cougar tail tips. Try them out sometime.

OHB is a great choice....maybe we could have a Tom Ferry award given away every year at the dcc room (Willie..paging Willie or Timberly..just a thought)

Great idea IMHO

When I was working at a college years ago, we began giving a yearly award to the outstanding staff member. Faculty members already had an award they could win (Teacher of the Year), but the staff had no award to recognize outstanding service. Anyway, the year the award was begun, the odds on favorite to win the award was a woman named Mary Schwab. She died, unexpectedly, before the year was over and we had to decide whether to give the award posthumously (after death, for those not familiar with that word). We finally decided that rather than GIVE the award to Mary posthumously, we would NAME the award after her. So from then on, it became the Mary Schwab Employee Service award and has been given annually ever since. I didn't know Tom Ferry personally, only through his posts on this forum, but it is obvious to me that he was a very valued AZ person and that he is definitely missed around here. I really like the idea of honoring him by naming an award after him; the Tom Ferry - OHB - AZ B'er of the Year. The name of the award would be kind of an "inside" thing, but that's kind of neat as well. I would suggest one or two further thoughts - have someone in charge of soliciting votes for this yearly award. Timberly? Eydie? Purdman? Koop? Mr. Wilson? And secondly, put up a sticky that gives the criteria for winning the award. Maybe there would be something in the criteria about a minimum number of posts during that year and rep points. What do you think?

Think it could certainly work, though rep points would have to be zero'd every year if that became the counter. Just a thought.

I posted in this thread earlier today and recmmonded Mr. Wilson and Purdman.

I just got done reading the "Here it is" thread by Eydie.

Nothing against Dave or Don, but I have to put Eydie above you guys. Really good stuff Eydie. Really good.

OK, I understand your distaste for stickies....but how else to do it? Or maybe the sticky would be the POLL where people could vote for the nominee of their choice. How about this: During November people can nominate whomever they want for AZB'er of the year. The ten (or five?) people getting the most nominations become the finalists and are put into a sticky poll. The poll remains up for the first three weeks of December and then the winner is announced. We would still need someone to take responsibility for tabulating the nominations.

My Last .02 On The Subject

Michelangelo was once asked how he created sculptures such as Pietas or David. He explained that he simply imagined the statue already inside of the block of rough marble, then chipped away the excess to reveal what had always been there. The marvelous statue, already created and eternally present, was waiting to be revealed. So is the great person already inside of you ready to be revealed. Everyone carries the seeds of greatness. "Great" people don't have something that everyone else doesn't; they've simply removed a lot of the things that stand in the way of their best selves. EKR
For this reason, I wouldn't have any idea who to vote for. The greatness is already here. So I will vote for all of you.

I second this thought!

I'm sure you are right Don but I've been chipping away at Willie for sometime, I'm afraid in that case it would take a Mt. Rushmore effort to find a Cracker Jack prize.

The mere fact that your avatar has a connection to the Grateful Dead takes you out of the running automatically.

From what I understand, you can't polish a turd. You also can't pick it up from the clean end! Willie may be a special case and require intense heat and pressure to make him a diamond. Time will tell!

Nominations so far - at least by my count

OK, I went back through this thread and came up with the following number of nominations. I decided to ignore posts that nominated three or more different people or that were self-nominations. Here are the numbers as of 11:00 AM on Nov. 1:

SJM – 2; Timberly – 4; Mr. Wilson – 2; Purdman – 6; Eydie – 3; JAM – 2; OHB – 9; 8-Ball Bernie – 1; Kevin Trudeau – 2; Mike Howerton – 6; John Schmidt – 2; Chris Cass – 1; Colin Colenso – 2; Jay Helfert – 1; Blackjack – 1

Someone may want to go back and check my counts.

I just started reading this thread and couldn't wait to post on it about naming the award after OHB. And sure enough, I was too late. BAH! But I definitely think that is the way to go! This it would be the first time naming the award after Tom, is the best way to clear up all the years before, that we did not do this.

As far as nominating someone, I have no idea...there is just too many people that should be honored by something like this. I'm litterally stumped! I would be glad to vote though!

I agree with naming the award after OHB. I'd suggest announcing the winner at the DCC so if the person is there, they can receive whatever award will go to the winner. Nominations through the month of November, voting through December, winner announced 1st week of January at the DCC.

Really good stuff Eydie. Really good.
Your post actually made me read the thread "Here it is" thread by Eydie.
I saw it earlier when the information started to come out but not enough information was collected.
Once Eydie of CSI AZ Billiard Forum got into digging up all the information she could, I have to agree that she posted some very good stuff.
I will nominate Eydie as well.

Uhmmmm....The OHB award is a fine idea.....but why do we really need to cast votes.....Votes have obviously been cast all year....Mr Wilson & Mike already know who has the most votes by the rep points...Just cause you max out at 10 does not mean you have the most rep points...I would hate to see someone win that just happens to be the "most popular" in November.....(Votes should be for the whole year)

Rep points could be re-set on Jan 1.

If we have to vote....I nominate Drivermaker....
