Earl Strickland's Info (transcribed by JAM)

FORUM NAME: "Earl Strickland"

LOCATION: "Hendersonville, but practices pool in Greenville, South Carolina, at Gametime"

AGE: "43"

HOURS OF PLAY PER WEEK: "Practices about 30 hours a week."

I am providing Earl's info sent via e-mail to JAM. If y'all were a little more selective with your words and blessed opinions, maybe Earl would post. He's been an AzBilliards Discussion Forum member for quite some time and has posted in the past.

I am looking forward to seeing the demographics. It is interesting that this survey has received 80 responses and 1,100 hits on the thread in 1 day. Hopefully, within the 30-day time period, others will respond.

LOL. Actually, since so much time has passed, I think Earl may need a computer cookie to log-in, but I'd venture a guess and say it's going to take a little more than cookies to get The Pearl to start posting now. Who can blame him!?

Dunno, I wasn't on here back then. I guess there were some "less than polite" things said.... This is the internet. Bad things are said. From what I have seen, there are more polite people on this site than most others. Some people just don't have thick skin and take everything said to heart.

That would be nice and I'd love to see it. Unfortunately Earl's antics in matches draw a lot of criticism and that isn't going to stop anytime soon. Personally, I just take it as part of the package; the same thing that makes him a little, shall we say, testy at times makes him a great player.

You're going to have to give up your day job to analyze all this data. It reminds me of a project I worked on in grad school trying to breed a hyperactive dog, they wound up with a room full of data and when I left it still hadn't been analyzed.

Real Name Pete
Player Level: I think C (on avarage B when the moons align;)
Hours of pool a week: 7 hrs solo practice, 13+ hrs play for fun, 3-4 hrs lessons and 1-5 hrs comp in weeekly tournament
Years playing: 10 years banging for maybe 20-30 hrs out of a year, But in the last two and a half years, very serious

C-Player
-will probably run one rack, but usually not more than one
-avg. run is 3 to 5 balls
-with ball in hand, will get out from the 7, two out of 3 times
-mixed results when playing safe
-inning ends due to botched position, missed shot or attempting a safe.

B-Player
-Able to run 1 to 3 racks
-avg. run is 5-7 balls
-with ball in hand will get out form the 5, 2 out of 3 times
-most of the time a "B" player will play a "safety" which maybe hit easily 2 out of 3 times
-a typical inning will end with a missed shot, a fair safety, or a won game

During my college days I had to do a research project for an upper level Soc class. While yes, gathering the data was time consuming, the analysis was quite easy thanx to computer software...it spit out the mean, median, averages..Etc... You just had to match the numbers up to determine if you hypothesis was proved or not. IMO, the part that may take JAM some time is the locations and age..depending on how broad she makes these categories and what her sample size will be. JAM...I hope you have some software to help you out. :D
