AzBilliards Survey-PLEASE RESPOND

Wish it were that easy, Nfty9er! ;)

Let me just state that Ryan is one of the few pool players I know who is able to find the right balance between family, work, and pool. He's a family man first, has a beautiful supportive wife and adorable little girl, and he's a lucky duck (IMO).

Really nice guy too. Funny how first impressions aren't always accurate. The first time I saw him he was complaining about something after he lost a match to one of the Joss tour regulars. I don't know why but I got the feeling he was a sore loser and trying to bully the other guy. About twenty minutes later I'm talking to a friend about my daughter and someone chimes in and starts talking with us and it was Ryan. Seems our daughters were born about a month apart and the way he spoke of his family really impressed me.
I guess the biggest thing I learned was not to judge these guys during the heat of battle. If I had dismissed him because of my initial preconceptions I would never have known what a really nice guy he is. It's that killer instinct and tournament attitude that makes these guys the professionals they are. I have to admit, I chimed in on the Earl thing as well but I guess it's a little hypocritical considering the fact that he is being judged in a position I told myself I wouldn't judge. Just thought I would share that story about Ryan and I for one would love to have him join the forums. He is one of my favorites on the Joss tour for both his ability and attitude on and off the table.

I'm surprised there are over 2,000 hits on the thread within a 2-day time frame, but only 120-plus responders to the survey. If anything, the survey reveals we all seem to be curious about our fellow AzBilliards Discussion Forum posters! :)

Lunchmoney, Keith's book is moving right along. It's a work that's still in progress. Even though the bulk of it is complete, we both want this to be perfect. With no holds barred, it's quite revealing, I think, about the path pool has taken in the past 30-plus years, at least in the world according to Keith (LOL). :p

We ran into Ryan McCreesh last night (Hi, Ryan :D). He reads AzBilliards on a regular basis to keep up to date with the pool happenings around the country, but hasn't been able to figure out how to log-in and post. So I'm going to provide his info, at his request.

FORUM NAME: Ryan McCreesh a/k/a Genie Man
LOCATION: Frederick, Maryland
AGE: 29
HOURS OF PLAY PER WEEK: 30-plus hours.

jam, keep in mind that alot of those clicks are probably people that have already posted. i know that when i see a new post in this thread i click, because i'm interested as to who's posted and the info. so on a normal day i may click that thread 5-10 times depending on the activity. that probably accounts for a good portion, as i'm sure i'm not the only one repeatedly clicking it. now if the website only records one click per user, then i stand corrected.

thanks

I think that is a very BROAD assumption. I think that the reason older people rack up more hours is either a) retired, or b) divorced/widowed

That's not true either. I think most do have their own tables at home but in my case it's neither of the above. It's basically how much you're into the game and how you wish to prioritize your time. Every morning when I get out of bed after pumping in some coffee and reading the newspaper, I usually put in 2 hours at the table and then go off on my merry way for the day. Whether I go to a room or back home, it's another 1-2 hours.

When you get older you also get smarter. You have to use the pool table as an excuse to retreat and hide from the old lady. :D Good Gawd son...I gotta teach you everything. :p

So I was right.... When I wake up, I shower, get coffee, then head to work by 7:30am... am usually here until about 5ish, then head to the pool hall until around 6:30-7pm... then head home, make sure kid's homework is done, dinner, laundry, play with/feed dogs, whatever....

<-- uses pool as an excuse quite often!!

JAM,

Thanks for the info. Put my name on the list for an autographed copy. Maybe you and Keith can come up to the Pacific Northwest on a book signing tour.

Thanks Wally and Grem for the birthday wishes, it isn't turning out to be a very happy birthday but that's out of my hands.

JAM, just so you know I also view this thread several times a day and I assume alot of us regulars also view it alot to see the new posts, this is probably why there are so many more views than replies. Oh and I can't wait for Keiths book to come out it sounds like there will be some excellent stories in it from the "old days"

We're 3 days into the survey, with about 130-plus responders. It's a great start. With 3,000 AzBilliard Discussion Forum members, I am hopeful to get more replies for the survey to get a more representative snapshot of the demographics of this forum.

I also wish I had added a category for BEVERAGE OF CHOICE when playing pool. A statistic like this could be used to attract prospective sponsors in the beverage industry, i.e., water, sodas, coffee, and beer. For instance, a letter to request sponsorship to a beverage industry member could state: The results of a January 2005 AzBilliards survey, a major pocket billiards website on the Internet, reveal ___ percent of players drink ____, the beverage of their choice, when playing pool.

I read a post recently from a player who attended a tournament in Mexico. The venue site had five or six beverage sponsors on site, providing free samples to the spectators, and every single seat in the place was filled. If nothing else, the FREE SAMPLES was a lure to get folks in the stands, and it worked.

Me personally, I'd like to see Starbucks as a pool sponsor. I can see it now, the Starbucks Triple Shot Open: 9-ball, One-pocket, and Banks. :D

I'm happy with the results to date, and I'm hoping to see more by the end of the 30-day time period. I have noticed an increase in traffic on AzBilliard's Discussion Forum in the past few days, which is GREAT. The survey has revealed that we like reading about who makes up the AzBilliards Discussion Forum family.

No sooner said than done...it's no big deal for all of us to go back and edit our responses. Just don't take the large spike in viewer hits as anything else but that. I'll be the first.

That's cool, I didn't even realize you could do that. I added mine.
