I had "shooter" over to my room last Friday.

I must say, the game of pool as it sits in today's society needs more people like him. One of the nicest guys I have ever met! Him and his wife, and my wife and I all went to dinner and then went back to the house to shoot a little. I had a very nice time, and he is welcome back ANYTIME. Great guy and good player!

Also, I know that its quite a bit further north that his area, but I am rather partial to Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie. They have a weekly Tuesday night 9 ball tournament with a $20 entry, that covers greens fees, and gets you a ticket for a super rack. They also have a bigger monthly tournament on the 3rd Saturday of every month. $45 entry for your standard player, 55 for "shooters", and 65 for pros (dont quote me exactly on the numbers, but i know thats REALLY close to right). The monthly tournament also has a Calcutta, and some of the best shooters in the area travel to go. Stottlemeyer, Mike Davis, Brandon Shuff, Shawn Wilkie, Danny Green, Gary Abood, just to name a few... not to mention the room owner Rick its a pretty darn strong shooter himself.

But anyway, thanks again to Six Shooter, I had a blast and look forward to playing again VERY soon!!!

If you ever want to come down to Lusby in Calvert County, give me a holler. I have a GCII setup by RKC. I don't get out much anymore, and why should I since I have the perfect table at home.

Very new to the area here.

Any chance that I can link up and play a little with some of the local AZ'ers in the area?

Thanks!!!

Ok...so what day works for folks to get to QBall in Springfield as a few have noted in this thread. I am up for a trip there one evening.....

Hey Six Shooter,
Keep First Break Cafe in Sterling, in mind. You are about 50 minutes away to some great tables, good food and drink specials and several action room events. Ten tables, all nine foot Diamonds w/competition pockets. Right off Leesburg Highway Route 7.

Gotta say THANK YOU

I've been pretty busy lately plus having connectivity issues with the Ipad so it's hindered me a little other than just getting on occasionally for something short to say or pm. I realize that this is no excuse. Especially looking at some of posts that came about in early June and I've only recently actually seen.

So without further ado, there are a couple of things I need to say here.

To Nineballsafety8: Dude. Your kind words really hit home with me. I am so sorry that I have not seen them sooner. I am usually pretty well prepared for just about anything but the words you expressed have really caught me off guard.

It was an honor and a privilege to be able to join you and your lovely wife for dinner (in spite of the horrific rain that night). I truly appreciate the two of you recommending the restaurant as well as being gracious hosts at your home to allow an unknown, a stranger, into your home to play a little on your table.

I'm ready to hang out with you again any time you are ready. Dinner is on us.

I am kicking myself for not coming back to this thread sooner and posting a reply to you sooner.

The two of you are good people and fun to hang out with.

I realize that any thanks I can offer is insufficient but it is all I can offer and I hope you can accept my meager thanks for such a great evening.

To Creedo: Thank you!!! I greatly appreciate you taking time out this past Sunday to meet up with me at your favorite hang out. I really enjoyed it not being crowded and somewhat quiet. My vocal chords thank you as well since we didn't have to scream and yell to be able to hear each other while we conversed. It gave us a chance to get to know each other a little. Let me know when you are ready to do it again.

FWIW......these 2 guys are absolutely great to hang out with and shoot around a bit. Both are great shooters. They both rank high in my book of recommendations regarding people to hang out with. It doesn't get any better than these two. If anyone ever has an opportunity to meet these folks, they are well worth it.

I'm sure that there will be more that I recommend in the future as I become more acclimated to the area.

Further, I'll be moving up to Laurel, MD in early August, so if anyone has any opinions on that area as well, please feel to chime in. I'll also be looking for places that offer cue repairs, etc.

Sorry for the long post.I was actually able to commandeer the wife's laptop since the Ipad wouldn't connect.....again.

Sometimes things just need to be said.

First Break Cafe in Sterling VA has a weekly tournament every Thursday night starting at 8:00 PM. There's usually all level of players and is handicapped.

Does Q ball in Springfield has a weekly tournament?

I'll find out this weekend and will post what I discover.

when are you going?

i was there last sunday afternoon and had the place to myself.

Most likely Saturday morning when they open at 11. May hit it again at same time on Sunday or sometime during early afternoon.

Please feel free to join me if you'd like. I've PM'd a couple of other folks on this thread inviting them plus CreeDo knows I'm going but I don't think he can make it.

I didnt know u were going to be moving to Laurel. Thats right next to base. There is a place right on 198 called bank shots that seems fairly nice. Never played there , but i know that on thursday nights Rick Phillipi is there with a shaft lathe set up and ready to work. Nice room and seem to be good people. Pretty sure they have lots going most of time. Several different leagues and what not

Hanging out with Perk

I had an opportunity to meet up and hang out with Perk this past Thursday night at Fast Eddie's in Springfield.

Not only is he a great person, he's one hell of a shooter.

Just so that everyone can enjoy the comic entertainment of it, I'll post the outcomes here.

We opened with a few racks of nine ball and I think he was screwing with me as he made a few balls, then I'd make a few balls.

After a little while we fell into a discussion as to what games each of us liked and didn't like. I proceeded to tell him that mostly 8 ball and 9 ball is played in the Atlanta area and it was hard to find anyone to play 14.1 which was a game that I'd like to start getting more involved in.

From there, we started to play a little to get me somewhat acclimated to it. After a few racks of just banging them around, he decided we could then play to 100 points.

He let me stay even for a while until I reached the low 30's and he was about to top 40. I think at this point he decided to acclimate me the old fashioned way and caught a gear. He proceeded to beat on me like a rented mule about to take his last step. I went down ashamedly, 100-33. I can see that I have quite a way to go to learn this game.

Perk is a fine example of someone you'd want to hang out with. Not only to play a little with, but just to hang out with.

After we finished playing and having dinner, we moved over to the bar for more conversation which lasted quite a while until he finished his last Yeungling.

During the weekend, he sent me a text about a 9 ball event he was going to in Midlothian and that it would be streamed free. We communicated between his matches and he let me know when he would be playing on the stream table. Watching him play was phenomenal.

FWIW....Perk is someone that I would definitely recommend anyone getting to know.

It's not often that you see a Wolverine hanging out with an Okie.

Well, its not like your a Buckeye then it mighta been different.

I guess what they say is true about people posting on the internet--I think you over exagerated quite a bit of that post but thank you for the compliments. You have a big passion for the game of pool even into the instruction end of it which allows for good discussion. It was fun and I am pretty sure we shall meet up again for a rematch. Till next time...

Honestly, I don't think I was over exaggerating. It was a nice time and you really are a great shooter. I think I accidentally omitted something about you catching a gear. It was when you caught a gear that I entered a little funk where I couldn't make a ball.

I guess I'll have to keep the wife out of your camp. LOL. She's originally a Buckeye. LOL

I'm posting here, hoping that some of the DC-area AZB readers will check in on this thread. I have a chance to take an extra Masters team slot for the upcoming APA national tournament. The tourney starts on Sunday, August 19th and runs through the 22nd.

So, if you play APA in Lee Tiani's area and you're interested in the upcoming Masters tournament, let me know asap!
