I've played all over the country and have been run over many times. It doesnt bother me. I want to learn more about one pocket and thats part of the game. I shake hands and say you play great.
Its hard for an out of towner to get an even match. The guys I should play wont play because they dont know me. So I end up playing better players and mostly lose.
Jude, dont play me if your a lockup artest and a poor sport to boot.
I like to have fun playing pool. I do have a real job and dont need to steal money.

Here's my Broadway Billiards story.....My girlfriends from New York and we took a trip back there about 2 years ago. Went into B-way Billiards (never been there before) a few times while I was there, as it was close to where we were staying. I don't necessarily 'look' like a 'player' (it's always so very gratifying to be mistaken for a tourist/fish by the predators..
), so on two occasions I was asked to play One Pocket....I beat both guys pretty easily....when I next stopped by somebody probably made a phone call because in a little while a guy called 'Slim' came in and asked me to play (maybe you New York guys know him?) - he played good, it was a tough game, but I liked the guy and enjoyed playing him.- Ghost

A great place.
Rob and Sammy are great guys. Pool players that love the game of pool.
They love to play,watch,or anything to do with the game. What more can you ask for when guys like this own a room.
The equiptment is second to none.
The tables play fantastic.
The balls glisten.
The lighting is perfect.
The tables are spaced nicely.
It's never too hot or too cold.If it is and you ask, they oblige,no problem
The burgers and wings are very good, if you want gourment then go out for dinner, it's a pool hall.
They never have a problem putting on fresh coffee.
There is a nice seating area with televisions and computers.
The music and televisions are never too loud.
The bathrooms are clean, the room is always clean.
You will always get a game. No one is out to lock you up
There are all levels of players at Skyline from Mika to the local kid having fun trying to learn. When events are happening in the U.S. you can find players like Corteza,Bustamante,Stalyev and many others there.
I am sure I missed a few other positives about Skyline but I wouldn't want Rob,Sammy,and Rob Sr ( Bob ) to get a big head.
I am typing this on a new laptop so it's a little out of order
What I forgot to mention is Robs dad is a great guy and the local players are all good people. No one is out to hurt anyone.
Don't miss this pool hall there are not many left like Skyline.

I have heard the same thing- great place and they know how to make a pool reoom. Gets thumbs up from my peeps that have played there...

i was in NYC while back and couldnt get action in Amsterdam. I went to broadway, which is nowhere near as nice a poolhall obviously, where i found plenty of action. ironically, i ended up losing badly to an Amsterdam regular.
as for where to go in NY, i have since been back a couple of times and with what has been said up to now in this thread, i would recommend Skyline. I have never gambled there, but the hall is nice and the equipment is spot on.
i thought masters had a weird vibe to it.

Yeah, action at Amsterdam can be REALLY hit & miss. There are a couple of reasons for that. The leagues have really limited the amount of time tables are available to the general public. As a result, those brief times during the week, regulars have made it a point to make sure not let these opportunities slip by so they schedule matches with people in advance.
The other big reason, Amsterdam gets a fair share of the serious-beginner. Although in many rooms, gamblers are quick to try and get a game with this group, at Amsterdam they're usually left alone. An out-of-town player won't be asked/harrased for a game primarily because many regulars view the interaction as potentially rude.
If a player approaches the front desk and asks the manager if there might be anyone in the room willing to play for stakes, usually they'll be pointed in a direction where a game can be made. Do this on a weekend afternoon or Friday evening and there's a reasonable chance you'll be in action within minutes.
Ask for me. Just be up front with what you want and what speed you play and you can get a game at Amsterdam. Skyline has a good reputation as well but it is pretty deep in Brooklyn.

I just love action. This guy says he will stake you so I offered to play. Not saying you need a backer but he offered thats all. I wont be there tonight cause my team not playing tonight. If you wanna set something up out of the public just send me a PM.
OK. I didn't realize your team didn't play tonight. We can work something out if you want to play. My schedule doesn't jibe with most other peoples but we'll see if there's some day that works for us. I'll PM you.

Gee Whiz. Didn't know I'd get branded as "bad action" for wanting to switch back to the original table - after we were even. Sorry that happened Jim, you are a nice guy and I was just a bit frustrated. But to be honest, I just wanted out of the game because I don't care to play for $20 a game with a solid player. 20 a rack one hole is fun only when you're stealing or donating to a better player. If you really wanted to gamble I would have played you on any table. But, I just don't have the patience to play for $20. I tried because I like the game and don't get to play it much in ny. I certainly wasn't trying to be a locksmith. But, I really don't think what I did was bad action or anything like it. A bit harsh. Bad action is usually a term reserved for guys that don't pay, cheat, shark, etc. While I ain't no saint, I don't do any of these. And just to defeat any other locksmith, nit theories: I will play any non-professional that comes into Broadway some $100 one-pocket/nine-ball. I don't mind tough action and I'm a B player. Sorry we didn't click Jim, but you have a standing offer to play for $500 on any shimmed table in the ny area. But, I think you're more of a social player, which is fine. I didn't even know pool players went on forums and called people out over $20 action.? There has to be more interesting topics....
