Bad Advise and the People Giving It

I always look at it like if the Advise works for the person who is giving it, then obviously he must think its the right way to play or make a shot and such.

Now a person giving advise about a cue, UGGGGGG sometimes it makes me want to SCREAM! I've seen so many people try to UP sell thier cue, because they love the cue and it cost X amount of money too.

I have a newbie on my 8ball team and he asked me about getting a new cue, and I told him straight up, he doesnt need to spend over 100$. Which is true! right now he is using I think one of those cheap Mizerak cues or Minnesota Fats cues. So obviously buying a Action or Players would be a good upgrade.

Now if I am coaching someone on my 8ball team, alot of the times, I give the person a couple of options, but always leave the choice upto them, unless they are missing a obvious saftey play that will win the game or match, then I give them you should really do this, cuz then your opponent will hafta do this and such.

Also, I am the team captain and a APA SL2, but I have a 2000$ Gilbert that I use to play with! And that makes all my Advise GOLDEN! :)

Really, how often is it the case that when someone buys a good or great piece of equipment that they are anything less than inspired by it?QUOTE]

All the time

Yeah, they get inspired, but for a month, maybe two???? Maybe my experience is much different than yours, and that's cool, and there are always exceptions....but it seems to happen a lot. Not only do I see loads for for sale posts on the net, they are in the paper, or even among several of my friends.

"Yeah, did you see Lance just won his 6th tour? I'm gonna get that bike, join a riding club, and race"....six months later, $5k bike, $3k worth of training gear....."Hey man, haven't seen you in a while - how is your training going?"......"cycling really isn't my thing....but I'm selling my bike if you are interested, only has about 10 hours on it.....I'll take $3k".....

It happened plenty in rockcrawling too......new local guy with $40k in parts on a built Jeep, best competition parts money can buy.....jumps in with us running the 6+ trails, no experience, get's hung up at every ledge, and finds a way to break an unbreakable part, in a section of the trail where extraction takes all night, and he had no business being on that trail in the first place....

Same with golf clubs, or many other hobbies.....and to someone new in pool, I'd tell them to play with house cues, read a couple of books, see a couple of videos, and get a feel for the game.....as you feel your game and enjoyment progress, reward yourself with a better cue, and so on....granted, buying the right cues have the inherent benefit of having a collection piece that can appreciate......and for people that have been playing pool for 20+ years and love the game, it's a labor of love and a different purchase....

Yeah, the broomstick comment is overused...how about warped house cue ;) ......no jealousy here, I've been lucky enough to buy the barely used clubs, and bike, and off-road vehicle, and a host of other stuff....but I'd still tell my friends and family to save their money, make sure they really like whatever they are doing - money can't get you around hard work and dedication, so take your time and make sure it's what you want before an expensive purchase...

I'M so confused !!!! Now I don't know if I should listen to you guys or not ..

When I owned my pool room I used to have A/B players and many, many bangers. I used to sell lower end cues ($50-100 retail types). I always asked if they would like the "No Miss Option" for an extra $20. Eighty percent said they would. The other 20% said they didn't have enough money but would be back later to have it installed :D

Bob
You can sign me up for that. A $ 20 dollar no miss option on a new cue. I could have saved thousands instead of always searching for that magic cue. For $50 MORE can I have that hit, like no other hit everyone is always talking about. What about some of those tips that put more English on the ball than those virgin rhino circumcised layered tips soaked in elephant piss for a year. Pleaseeee.

no-sho

on/off switch for another $10

For $10 more you should invest in the on/off switch. You
must put the switch in the "off" position when playing a
safety, so the object ball does not find a pocket. Don't
forget to turn it back on when you get back to the table and
wish to pocket the object ball.

Nail the fundamentals and spend time at the table. that will benifit players more than anything.

I bought a instructional DVD some time ago, showed you how to line up and to shoot one handed.. Best advice Ive seen. believe it or not. I think every player should go through this to see how committed they are to play serious pool..

Ofcourse thats not my advice, that is my opinion.

Let me get this straight. You are advising me not to take the advice on here. Since your advice is not to take advice, I shouldn't listen to you. So I guess you are advising me to then take the advice on here. I'm not trying to be adversarial about you advising me about advice. I'm just advising you that I'm in a quandary about whether or not you are advising me to take your advice, or are advising me not to take your advice. So please advise me on what advice I'm supposed to take.
