I inquired about purchasing this dvd set when he first listed them so long ago...didn't hear back from him...
Then came the PM message he sent me about a week later, at 2AM in the morning which read (not verbatim): 'If you send me $XX by tomorrow morning, I will send you one of the first DVD sets, as I will be going to the post office first thing'
I sent him the money minutes later after getting his PM.
About a week later I was wondering where the DVD set was, and while surfing around AZ, I checked out his original listing just for kicks and found that he had responded to another poster's inquiry of where the DVD sets were, and why it was taking a bit longer than expected....
He responded something to the effect of "I wasn't happy with the cover art, and the final burning wasn't to my satisfaction" or something like that, and it they will be sent out shortly...
Well, that didn't jive with me, my spidey sense started tingling, especially after his original PM to me weeks before stating that the DVD sets were all ready to go, and was going to mail the first one's out in the morning, including mine, as long as I paid him ASAP.
So I found his phone number and blew a call out to him, caught him totally off guard. As he started to throw excuses at me, I told him to shut up and listen as I read the PM he originally sent me. He fumbled over his words as I expected, but did then promise me he was going to send me the very first set, next day shipping, first thing in the morning. And guess what? He did.
And to be honest, the DVD cover art was very good, and the production, IMO, wasn't that bad. For $50 bucks, or $55 (don't remember exactly what I paid), it was ok, especially for the amount of action you get to see. He called me a couple days later, asking if I had received the set, and asked my opinion, to which I gave similar to the above.
It was about a month or two later or so that the whole bad blood thing with Jay H. blew up, and the rest I guess is AZ history.
It is a shame, my feeling is this guy had some good intentions at some point, but didn't have the savvy to put it all together, start to finish. I give him credit for trying, but constantly making promises, and then playing catch up to please some of the people seemed to seal his fate. JAM touched on this much more eloquently than I could.
I borrowed the DVD set to my buddie RJ who posted above, and I know he was there attending as Earl's corner man, so I understand his opinion of the DVD set...it is missing some parts from the first set as I have been told. But the rest is all there, and it's some good action. I didn't get to see the Ebay listing, but I'd like to think, if he in fact does own the rights to this event's recording, that if someone were to buy it at a reasonable price (I have no idea if $5000 is way too much or way too little, nor do I really care), it should make some money. It would be a shame for others not to be able to see this as it was very entertaining to watch.
